DIASPORA! BTS WITH COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER GIULIA BERNACCHI 📡

Over ten days in May, RISE’s team of aspiring journalists were in Bristol to explore DIASPORA! 2026 - a festival produced by @diverseartistsnetwork 🎪

@vihanimal caught up with @giulia.bernacchi who works to connect the artists ans the audiences to the incredible talent across Bristol and the South West! Giulia talks about the intentionality of focusing on community, making sure artist voices are heard and how it’s “not just about putting on a good event for the night” 👏🏽

The Diverse Artists Network creates opportunities for marginalised artists, helping to ensure they’re seen, heard and paid. We worked with them on DIASPORA!
2024 and 2026, creating youth-led content that explored the festival’s programme.

If you’d like to work with RISE on a project or collaborate with other young creatives’ get in touch!🩵 by @vihanimal

The raven himself is hoarse
That croaks the fatal entrance of Duncan
Under my battlements. Come, you spirits
That tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here,
And fill me, from the crown to the toe, top-full
Of direst cruelty! Make thick my blood,
Stop up th' access and passage to remorse,
That no compunctious visitings of nature
Shake my fell purpose, nor keep peace between
The effect and it! Come to my woman's breasts,
And take my milk for gall, you murd'ring ministers,
Wherever in your sightless substances
You wait on nature's mischief! Come, thick night,
And pall thee in the dunnest smoke of hell,
That my keen knife see not the wound it makes,
Nor heaven peep through the blanket of the dark,
To cry "Hold, hold!"

Our Mycelium for @upallnightbristol a gorgeous snapshot into Bristol's recent nightlife history.

Thank u for inviting me to perform and be part of such a beautiful conversation on our spaces for release and connection 💜

@from_dead_poets_society got maximum twinklage ✨️🥹

Its 2 DAYS UNTIL MY FIRST SOLO SHOW!

Ourcylium is a drag x theatre show exploring belonging and connection through the eyes (gills?) of a mushroom. The inseparability of personal and political, and strangeness of world making in a time of collapse 🍄

Sliding scale tickets are in my story, 10 tickets left for the first showing!

This show will include themes of transphobia, mental health, addiction and grief taken in The Mount Without by @vihanimal

Artists use lies to tell the truth. Yes, I created a lie. But because you believed it, you found something true about yourself.

Turns out my new look is “smiling with a flower,” thanks to the most creative stylists I know. All it took was a little paper, a cute flower, some glue, and a bunch of giggling kids to kick off a fresh fashion trend—take notes, fashion week! Didn’t expect to walk out of a chaotic afternoon with a handmade accessory, but honestly, moments like this make every single visit so much fun. As the facilitator of Gender Sensitisation workshops with these kids at the @indianwomenimpact NGO, it's always special to see how they come up with such creative ways to break the norms and stereotypes of the society. Looking forward to having more of these moments of learning and growing together, and having more such cute accessories made out of those precious moments....

तुम इतना जो मुस्कुरा रहे हो
क्या ग़म है जिस को छुपा रहे हो

आँखों में नमी हँसी लबों पर
क्या हाल है क्या दिखा रहे हो

On the concrete trees,
Blessed are the free
Painful it must be for the avian souls
When the breeze is caged
And its screams go unheard
When the sunset howls
For the blue dreams blurred
When the greens are slaughtered
And their sweet songs interred
