Back in 2009, we made a short fiction film called घनदाट (URGENT).

The idea came to me while I was studying at the University of Pune. We auditioned many actors for the lead role, but Dnyanesh Zoting suggested Vikas Patil from Kolhapur. We cast him, and he gave a wonderful performance. While shooting the final scene, Nagraj laughed so hard watching Vikas perform that he literally fell to the ground.

URGENT won three awards at the ICE Film Festival- Best Film, Best Editing, and Best Actor, presented by Sachin Khedekar. Hansal Mehta sir was one of the festival jurors. During the award ceremony, Sachin sir said that after Gulzar's 'Maachis', URGENT was one of the few films where he felt exactly what the protagonist was feeling.

The film was also screened at festivals in Karimnagar, Mumbai, Karachi, and Kerala. I couldn't attend the Kerala screening, but a friend told me that the audience laughed uncontrollably throughout the film and wanted to meet the filmmaker. Since I wasn't there, he went up to them instead.

At that time, I was teaching in Ahmednagar. Along with a few students from the Department of Communication Studies, we put together a crew, arranged the equipment, and shot the film in Pune in just three days.

After that, the film simply stayed on the shelf.

Technically, it's a modest film. We couldn't complete the sound design back then. But the situational black comedy still works, and many friends kept encouraging me to release it on YouTube.

The film was produced by Pooja Dolas. And make-up, costumes, and art were handled by Priyanka Dubey. While Gargee Kulkarni managed production and obtained all the permissions required to shoot in Pune's busy traffic. Kutub Inamdar edited the film, and Barun was the cinematographer. Nagraj Manjule and Suyash Zunjurke played small but important roles.

Samar Nakhate, Sachin Bichitkar, Ganesh Jaswant, Sudhanva Panse, Ganesh Helkar, Sampat Pimpale, Sushil Jadhav, Suchitra Sathe, Mazhar Shaikh, and Nilesh Rasal were all part of this journey at different stages.

The CBFC asked us to mute a few (very important!) words & dialogues.
