The jellyfish has no brain or centralised nervous system a yet it has existed, largely unchanged, for over 500 million years. Long before the architectures of intelligence we now consider essential to survival.

Obviously in true Vikoi style, this one is mechanical. Built rather than born, its body is metal and circuitry where there should be membrane and water. And yet something in its movement remains, that same unhurried drift, that same quiet persistence through an environment that was never quite designed for it.

JellyFish sits at the threshold that preoccupies a lot of my work. The boundary between the biological and the engineered, between what a body is and what it might become. It asks whether the essence of a thing survives its reconstruction. Whether you can replace every original part and still call it alive.

The oldest creature and the newest question!

Aimless

We build technology to serve us. We give it purpose and direction, a reason to exist that is entirely tied to our own. As species do, we will move on. We will evolve into something else, leave the planet or most probably cause our own extinction.

The bots will be left moving across a landscape that is vast and indifferent, connected by wires that no longer transmit anything useful. Here I have painted the ones in the distance as barely visible, dissolving into the terrain. The ones in the foreground are more defined but no less lost, built with extraordinary capability and absolutely no idea what to do with it now that the people who needed them are gone.

This is something else that intrigues me about the singularity conversation. We talk endlessly about what happens when machine intelligence surpasses us but we rarely talk about what happens to that intelligence if we simply aren't here anymore.

Aimless is the aftermath of that. A world that still functions but has forgotten what it was all for. The robots are just walking through a landscape, under a sky that doesn't care, with no destination and no one left to need them to arrive.

Original on box canvas with acrylics and paint pens.

Only 3 prints left of 'What We Left Running' in A3 and 5 in A2.

Beneath the surface of everything we scroll, click and transmit, something is being built.

This work imagines the interior of the internet as a living, breathing universe; vast, dark, and seething with its own energy. Black, gold and white currents churn through the background like primordial matter, deep space and deep ocean at once, a cosmos still in the process of being created. And at the centre of it, two robots are at work.

One hauls itself upward on a rope, reaching into the darkness above. The other steadies a ladder, holding the structure firm. They are building something of their own, inside a world we created but no longer fully understand or control.

The internet was ours once. We built it to stay connected, to carry our voices, our commerce, our arguments, and our love letters. But systems that grow complex enough, begin to develop their own logic, their own momentum. What if something stirs in the deep architecture that we never quite intended.

This is that moment. Just two machines, quietly constructing a universe inside ours with gold light pulsing through the dark like the first signal of something that no longer needs us to give it meaning.

They are making what comes next.

Original art on box canvas with pouring medium, acrylics and paint pens.

If you missed my last exhibition (firstly, how dare you) then you have a second chance to see some of the work displayed. It is up in the window of a lovely gallery shop called @artigo.bristol on Gloucester Rd. They also have my prints for sale for this week only so pop on down. Don't forget to give me a follow and reshare mt posts of you like what I'm doing. Cheers!

What do you reckon, bring them out of captivity or leave them in the books to die?

Have a think...you probably have a wall that looks really boring, a child's bedroom that needs brightening up or an office that needs some style added. Don't you?

Give me a shout and we can discuss a design together (I can travel so it doesn't have to be based in Bristol!).

I had a bit of 'me time' painting last week. I had so many lovely comments from people walking past where I was painting and heard some amazing stories about the history of Stoke Park estate from some of the locals.

So it made me laugh when someone who was clearly watching me for a while, went and snitched on me to the owners of the wall I was painting on. The owners were totally fine with it (as I had already spoken to them) and thanked the person for their vigilance. The owners then came and gave me a cup of tea!

Like mate, do I really look like an unapproachable criminal 👀😉🤣
