Tokio. Noviembre del año pasado. Cinco de la mañana. Mi esposa se ata las zapatillas en la habitación del hotel y yo le paso el dorsal. Va a correr el maratón.

Yo no corro ese año. La acompaño.
Un año mas tarde estamos en la recta final y la carrera es otra. Llega nuestra hija este mes.
Me desconecto unos días. Hay kilómetros que no se corren con el móvil en la mano.

Tokyo Nights #1

Tokyo es contraste puro. Tradición y vanguardia, caos y orden, velocidad y silencio. Committing yourself to endure your pain and transform during this race called life is beautiful. We all have the power to change our inner voice, how we speak to ourselves, how we react to others, and our judgments.

When people ask me why I do marathons, I have two answers.

First, I love to see my lovely wife happy when I finish, because she always finishes earlier, and second, because of the conversation I have with myself when I reach the thirty kilometer.

I had conversations with myself when fighting Jiujitsu, when staring at paint for an hour in museums, but when you run, that shit is wild.

I hope you can endure and have that conversation with yourself in your lifetime.

This week, I attended an event on Indian Creek Island with my wife and friends, organized by a beloved friend. As I looked around, I couldn’t help but reflect on my journey and how surreal this moment felt.

I believe that life takes you where you are meant to be, with the people you are meant to be with. As a child, I was told that my talent for painting wasn’t “worthy” by people around me, except for my parents and brother who believed in me. However, I later realized that if you follow your innate talent, regardless of what others say, you will achieve great things.

By talent, I mean something that comes naturally to you, not necessarily your passion. Passion comes later in life, once you have stability and a clear sense of who you are. If you embrace your talent, you will end up traveling the world with your partner, having fun with friends, and building things that you never imagined.

I carry with me the lessons I’ve learned, the bravery to say no, the courage to say yes, and the promise to embrace extraordinary opportunities with humility and gratitude. taken in Indian Creek Country Club by @viktor.teran

GO ALL THE WAY
If you’re going to try, go all the way.
Otherwise, don’t even start.

If you're going to try, go all the way.

This could mean losing friends, wives, relatives, jobs and maybe even your mind.

It could mean not eating for three or four days.
