#ViktorVanBramer, (un)writ range: six drafts (2026). Mixed media. Dimensions variable

Viktor van Bramer (b. Las Vegas, Nevada) lives and works in El Paso, Texas. He is mostly self-taught and built his practice over time while working in other creative fields, including floristry, interior design, and independent perfume making. “I think of these pieces as indecipherable texts: tablets, letters, or fragments of language that will never be read. They resemble writing while refusing to communicate literal meaning. For me, this is an act of reclamation, transforming structures associated with writing from something once tied to punishment I received as a child into something meditative, self-directed, and materially grounded.”

#thefalstaffproject @viktor_van_bramer @the_falstaff_ photos by @instagrandmabrown by @viktor_van_bramer

over the last few years my thoughts have been relentlessly consumed by ideas for making art, and or objects. almost everyday i have some compelling idea for an image or process, painting or object, and almost every time i’m either bored with the result, or disappointed and discouraged. i have come to understand that what i need is a process that i find satisfying, and yields something that i consider beautiful, and that i have some control over but also surprises me as it comes into being. i have always been attracted to minimal repetitive works. simplicity and tedium. i think i’ve always been seeking ways to find peace, physically and emotionally, in that kind of a process. above all i want to make something that is visually compelling (to myself first and foremost) before any “meaning” is ascribed to it. that said i still want to relate to my surroundings, my environment. i’m deeply influenced by the desert, which is where i’m from, and to which i have returned, and of course the deep well of minimalism that works so well in this environment. i have gotten to a point where i need to be true to myself, whatever that means and entails. through the constant, annoying, all consuming thoughts of making things over theses last few years i have finally made a something that excited me in a way i hadn’t been in i don’t know how long. the process, the way the piece revealed itself to me, the texture, form and weight, all coalescing into something that i am not bored of immediately. i can’t express how exciting that feels. if you haven’t caught on, this is the piece. simple, tactile, humble, emotional, weighty. more to come〰️🤍〰️

plaster, paper, wood. 5” x 7” x 2”.

NFS, though others are on the way. my feelings for this one are too big for me to part ways right now, but if you think yours are bigger, make an offer lol. by @viktor_van_bramer
