POSTS STORIES REELS

I’ve posted a lot of my life on this platform over the past 16 years (Yes, Instagram is 16 years old) and up until now it’s been a lot of highlights so sharing some real stuff for a minute. 😅🙃 by @villatora

Reading Bunyip and the Stars at @montessorischoolbali MONSTERsori Halloween event yesterday.

I remember meeting author Adam Duncan when this book launched at the @nationalmuseumofaustralia and sharing how important it was to keep telling our stories especially to the children. While this story isn’t about my culture, the message of family and connection to Country is something I can relate too.

It was fun to read out loud and watch the kids faces as I read and roared through the story. A good read for spooky season! 👻

Postcards from the Ubud Writers and Readers Festival:

1. Festival friends! These two made going to the festival so much more enjoyable! We went to a few sessions together but I loved when we went to different sessions and debriefed what our takeaways were. @inga_maria_p @lisa.hugl
2. Books in my bag BEFORE the festival…
3. And AFTER. 😅 clearly showing my restraint as there were about 12 books on my list!
4. Batik was the theme on day 1
5. The boys came with me and we turned it into a little staycation. Grateful to my husband for being my personal driver!
6. Shelf Therapy! Why didn’t I think of that!?!
7. I met the author of A Splintering! (I’m reading the book now and it is riveting!) And once again I have no pictures that I actually met her but I do have this signed copy of her book, so that’s proof right!?!

For years I called my mother every year on my birthday. I’m not exactly sure when the tradition started but I liked hearing the story of the day I was born. And I didn’t even know this was not a normal thing outside of my family. I mean, my cousins did, but only years later it dawned on me that none of my friends had this family tradition.

As the years went on I memorised the story knowing almost exactly when she would make her inflections. Sometimes there was more embellishment. Sometimes it was told plainly, facts only.

Happy birthday to us.

Challenging myself by taking photos on the #fujifilmxt and seeing a whole new set of things to work on; focal point, overall composition, hand modeling 😅. It’s like I’m balancing a fine line of capturing as-I-see-it-in-this moment and patiently-waiting-for-the-action-to-step-into-the-frame.

Captures of my Kaua'i. June 2026. @postnautical

Summertime has always been a favorite time of year (mostly because of my birthday😅) I have so many memories of endless beach days, hanging out with my cousins, and campfires. I’m grateful that I get to show Rory a piece of my childhood everytime we come home.

Throughout my life I’ve had a love/hate relationship with this island; took the first chance I had to leave when I got into boarding school but then felt super proud to be from Kaua'i. Loved the idea of coming home for the holidays but then immediately regretted the old habits and roles I had to play while I was here.

This time it felt different. I can’t explain it fully but I felt more at peace. I felt like I could love this island and appreciate it again.

I’m grateful for my family @andie_stoll, @avserviceskauai, @sheenatuazon, @creewog for always meeting me where I’m at and loving on my family in the beautiful ways that you do. And @nakaielua_kauai and @farmahfletch for always opening ip their home to us and taking us on adventures.

Decided to take over and get behind the lens of our #fujifilmxt4. A bit rusty in the timing (see photo 2 of a horse without a head 😅) but this camera makes it so easy to take beautiful photos. If you want to know the presets, you’ll have to ask the pro @postnautical.

Before we headed out on our summer break we had a full on week. Josh and I started sharing our plans with Rory to help him prepare for the long flights and visiting family and friends.

1. Flight plan ✈️
2. Last day of school celebration 🎉
3. Catch up with my dear friend @qiosarah who I haven’t seen in years. Probably before we had kids. 🫣
(I also saw @skahlefeldt but forgot to take a photo for myself!)
4. I still can’t believe @qiosarah and I have children and they even hugged at the end.
5. An excellent seafood feast hosted by a couple we know from Rory’s school. Can you tell these are my people 😅
6. Finally on the plane for Flight 1 and Rory already setup with his coloring. ✈️

For a while now, I’ve been wanting to share a little bit of Hawaiʻi with Rory’s classmates, and I thought this was such a lovely way to introduce our Hawaiian culture 🌺

This week we made lei, talked story, and the room was full of that big, joyful energy the children always bring. Lots of excitement, lots of movement… and then those quiet little moments where they settled into their “work”.

I love watching that shift — from busy to deeply focused. That kind of concentration and care… that’s Montessori magic to me ✨

It felt really special to share something from home in this way. Even though it was paper and straws I still felt the process of gathering and preparing to make lei. 😅

May Day is Lei Day in Hawaiʻi… and today we got to carry a little bit of that with us 🌺 by @villatora

To be inspired by life, learn something new everyday. 🪷

Learning to make canang, sewed offerings, was simple and very fun. How genius to craft something so beautiful out of two coconut fronds?

A reminder to stay inspired by life, to remain curious, and to learn something new every day. There’s so much wisdom in the small, quiet rituals if we’re willing to pause and receive it. by @villatora
