The S5 is preparing for its final cruise with its original engine.... Then the spare goes in, and after that the real fun begins!

Mild Disclaimer - no the jackal tune didn't cause this... My general dumbassery and a 034 Motorsports tune did. Jackal made the original problem come front and center, the 1 day I ran it, while the 034 tune kept self correcting to the point where my engine eventually ate itself without complaoning until it couldn't not comolain. Lesson learned - neither would have been an actual problem if I had a sleeved block. So this block is destined to be sleeved to fix the real problem.

One head is DONE!

Took around 12-ish hours in total to get all the work done.

1. port the intake and exhaust runners,
2. 3 angle valve job on the intake valve seats 30 - 45 - 60 degree cuts.
3. 2 angle valve job on the exhaust side 45 - 60 degree (didn't buy a small enough cutter to do the 30 degree cut on the exhaust side)
4. Check tolerances on all the valve guides in relation to the new valves - fortunately the new valves are fat enough that I didn't have to replace any guides.
5. Install new valve stem seals.
6. Install the new Supertech intake and exhaust valves - I reused the oem springs and retainers since they were fine and I wasn't upgrading to stiffer springs or titanium retainers.

Learned a lot, managed to get the intake runners opened up a lot so these should flow significantly better. Idk how much better exactly though since I didn't get around to having them flow tested before porting. And now I just have one more head to go. Plus I still need to get 3D Scans of the head - wich I really should have done before puting it back together lol.

All in if I can get the other head done in the same amount of time or less then I'd say it was 100% worth it to buy the tools and learn to do it myself over sending these out to a machine shop. Some stuff I can't do at home yet though; like resurfacing the mating surfaces but maybe someday I'll get the machinery to do that too.

This head is for the 3.0 Supercharged V6 I am rebuilding for my 2016 Audi S5

PROGRESS!!!

First head is ported, first valve is in, and the first valve seat is ground!

Turns out there wasn't enough clearance for a 3 angle grind but I was still able to do a 2 angle - 45 and 60 degrees - first time I've ever done this level of valve work and I'm still terrible at applying dyechem without making a mess.

This is one of two cylinder heads for the Audi EA837 (3.0 Supercharged) engine I am rebuilding for my S5.

CLEANING DAY!

This engine is gross lol. It's probably going to take all day to get it clean enough to even consider puting it back together. Hardest part is finding degreaser and detergents that are effective, alcohol free, and pH neutral so they don't damage the aluminum.

Engine is fully broken down! The crankshaft on the Audi supercharged 3.0T is a very weird one. I've never seen another one with staggered journals like this before. Fortunately the bearings were fine, the worst of them was only mildly worn, but the piston rings were completely clogged up. The oil ring was not doing very much with how nasty it was on all 6 pistons.

Heads are off! And it is confirmed that one head was definately replaced recently and not the other. No idea why since the older head also had a leaking head gasket, but oh well, both heads have been dropped off at @advancedcylinderheads to be fully checked out and repaired if needed. Pistons look good so far and cleaned up nicely. New head bolts and main bolts from AMTuned should be here in a few days.

I'll be cracking open the bottom end sometime this week and fingers crossed everything in there is OK. Does anyone know of a shop in central Florida that can re-balance a rotating assembly?
