Kalbelia X Flamenco - Connected through the weaves of a shared history and artistic expression. In Jaipur, we immersed ourselves in a spontaneous, improvised coming together of the two worlds - seemingly continents apart, and yet so intimately known to each other.

♥️🖤 @imagetakerstudios managed to bring out parts of me that I don’t often show to the outside world, and for that alone he’s a genius! The pictures taken on a lovely summer evening in Seville are an added bonus forever etched in the montage of my existence.

‘Fiesta Flamenca 2024’ - Xianix Barrera flamenco student showcase.

*Farruca* - with @samlbla 🩸and the journey of two star-crossed lovers who are riding the push and pull of their relationship through unresolved conflicts, anger, attraction, care and… love. I don’t think I’ve ever truly forgotten that I’m on stage while performing before, and that’s attributed to the very palpable and powerful force that can exist between two humans, and the literal presence of your masters on the stage holding you.

On the terrace of the house facing Mansarovar Ghat, Varanasi - where we spent our 3rd and last day here. The shine on the metal is largely from the moonlight, and you can’t tell but all I see is the river Ganga from east to west from where I’m standing. A sudden inspiration to indulge in some movement while an Aarti plays in the distance, people have audible conversations about their daily lives sitting at the Ghat below, the trees rustle as monkeys jump from branch to branch, tiny little lamps are seen gently floating away on the water, and a feeling of how much art and beauty has been inspired and created in this city more then 3000 years old.

Kalbelia Meets Flamenco at Maah in Jaipur

Jaipur witnessed a spontaneous musical and dance exchange between Kalbelia and Flamenco at “Kalbelia X Flamenco”, held at Maah Space supported by Jaipur Virasat Foundation and Vinyasa Earth. The session featured Vinay Maloo on Flamenco dance; Rajki Sapera, Kalbelia dancer and singer; Mamta Sapera, folk percussionist; Ugam Nath on Khanjri and Dafli; and Harji Nath Sapera on Been programed by Supriya.

The improvisational jam brought together two traditions separated by geography but connected through shared histories, movement and artistic expression. The performance unfolded through a lively jugalbandhi between Morchang and Khartal rhythms. Bringing together dance, percussion, melody and movement, the jam created an energetic and spontaneous dialogue between two distinct yet intimately resonant cultural traditions. by @vinmalov
