My name is Vincent "vinny2guns" Cagungun, I'm a 1st Gen immigrant from the islands of the Philippines 🇵🇭. (I rode the short bus because apparently English is my second language 😂)

@amber_crna is my life partner. She's a little shorter than the bus I rode, but don't let her snack size fool you.

We met in school and got to really know each other in the cadaver lab of our nurse anesthesia program. 4 undissected bodies, 200+ intricate structures, a circular saw and the smell of formaldehyde infused into every pore of your body. This is where our journey began...

Sacrificing much more than blood, sweat and tears; 3 years later, we walked across the stage together as doctorally prepared nurse anesthetist/anesthesiologists and was given the nickname the "Dreamteam“ 🥴

Around this time, Amber and I make goals for the following year. Some are personal, and some are together. But with any goal we make, we want the chances of us to fail to be higher than chances of us succeeding.
-
Why?🤔

1) Failure is a trigger to know where you can improve.
2) The size of your dreams should exceed your current capacity to achieve them
-
January of this year, we challenged ourselves to pay off our school loans in 12 months. We didn't fully believe we could do it, but they say, "If your dreams dont scare you, then you ain't dreaming big enough." So we started off slowly, and we increased our payments every quarter.

See, many folks mistaken the summit of a mountain to be what you've been waiting for. Eagerly racing to the the top, you wait for these merits to make you whole. And in disappointment, you find another mountain to climb.

Only to find that the next peak will be as fleeting as the last. Mountain after moutain, you soon realize that life isn't comprised of a series of mountains to climb, but rather the climb is disguised as life itself.

So for anyone who cares to listen...

Find clarity in what you want in life. Put them in a sequence of importance, and lock your eyes on those priorities. Bc if you don't live by your priorities, you will live by your pressures. & if your output exceeds your input, your upkeep will be your downfall

Here is my sequence:
-Live to the fullest, tomorrow is never promised
-Serve your people with your God given talents
-Give unceasingly, karma will never forget

To my queen: Your palace awaits you.

The Cagunguns are officially homeowners!!! 🏠🔑

We’ve been so busy the last couple of weeks, we haven’t had much time to process all of it until now.

From the minute we stepped into this home, we knew it was special-a place we could grow our little family. The definition of a midcentury modern home surrounded by red rocks. I’m not lying when I say every single window has a breathtaking view.

This season of life feels extra special — a new home, a growing family, and so much to look forward to. I can’t wait to host all the people we love and make a million more memories here!

Almost every week someone messages me asking how to get into CRNA school with what is basically the bare minimum. One year of ICU, no strong critical care background, just trying to check a box and get in fast.

Here's a not so big secret, there is no shortcut. There never was, and I have no advice to give to those looking for a fast track.

Whether you're for or against CRNAs, the fact is that this job carries the kind of responsibility where in many places our scope can be identical to an anesthesiologist's. That's not something you rush into with the least amount of experience a program will accept. Plus applying with one year isn't even a competitive strategy, it just tells the admissions committee you're not trying to stand out, you're trying to meet the floor.

I don't care what some may say, when people cut corners to get here, it shows, in how they practice and how they carry themselves. It's a small percentage, but it's the percentage anti-CRNA physicians remember, and it becomes an excuse to argue CRNAs shouldn't practice independently at all.

If the ONLY question you're asking me is "Can I apply with just 1 year ICU experience," you've already told me your goal is the bare minimum and chances are I won't answer. taken in Boston, Massachusetts by @vinny2guns_

Reflecting on the last 3 months as I’m entering the final trimester!

2nd trimester was pure bliss!

Baby moon & gender reveal in bora bora, creating our dream nursery, stroller shopping, getting to see 3D images of our little girl, feeling her strong kicks, buena vista wedding, nic D & Conner price concert, 4th of July in Chicago!

feeling so good with so much energy! I truly wish that all the trimesters were this good!
