Another year older.

If I had to sum up 30 years into a few lessons, it would be this:
1. No matter how cruel the world can get, or how people you once loved tried to hurt you, don’t lose your light. I’ve learned that staying kind is still worth it! A good heart will never be a loss.

2. Show up. Life is short. Losing my dad changed the way I see time. So now I show up for the people who matter. Even when it’s hard. Even when I’m tired. And showing up isn’t just about being physically there. Sometimes it’s a prayer. A simple text message. A random Grab delivery on a bad day. Presence comes in many forms, and it always matters.

3. And trust God. Trust the process. It sounds cliché until you live through it. Somehow, things always fall into place. Not always the way I wanted, but always the way I needed. And honestly, trusting that everything will fall into place makes life lighter.

I’m grateful for the lessons. Grateful for the growth. Grateful that I’m still soft, still kind, still here.

Chapter 30. Choosing light, every single time. 🤍

This moment isn't just a celebration of my 5 years in medical school but also a tribute to the unwavering support of my family and friends who believed in me every step of the way. As I wear this toga, I feel the presence of my dad beside me — his courage still inspires me after his short battle with esophageal cancer last year. I dedicate this achievement to him; for without the lessons he taught me about faith, resilience, and perseverance, I would not have achieved this milestone. Here's to embracing the future he wished and prayed for me, and to cherishing the memories that got me here. This is for you, Pa. I hope you’re proud of me up there.

Together, we rise to the occasion of becoming doctors of the future. We rise to be of service to our communities, wherever in the world they may be. We rise to the challenge of a life to be lived with intention, integrity, rigor, and compassion.

To everyone who has helped us come this far, most especially to our patients, we share this triumph with all of you. Taos-pusong pasasalamat! 💙🦅
