Deciding to actually drink a bottle of wine after a 140-wine marathon tasting is a pretty big accomplishment. Deciding to drink the exact same variety you’ve been tasting all day is a whole different level.I’ve been a massive fan of Cameron for years. In fact, their wines were a staple on Morrell's shelves when I was the buyer. Unfortunately, over the last few years I’ve covered Oregon, I haven't been able to secure a tasting with them. I am so incredibly happy to say that it changed this year.The Cameron 2023s display every single quality that made them a constant for me years ago: energy, transparency, and absolute precision. I place this winery right alongside some of the world's greatest producers. Tasting the @martinwoodswines portfolio was fantastic enough, but digging into the dirt and walking amongst the vines at @hylandvineyard—planted as far back as 1971—was the real icing on the cake. 🍷✨Evan Martin is easily one of the most thoughtful and passionate winemakers in the Willamette Valley today, turning pages to write the future chapters of Oregon winemaking. Finally got to @etchfood last night. Chef Steven Edwards’s menu totally delivered, but also, I wasn’t expecting one of the best wine lists I’ve seen for a long time. Expertly curated, no crazy mark ups, a dazzling array of style and regions with too many temptations. That 2023 Straw Wine from @mullineuxwines is sensational and @sugruesouthdowns “Bonkers” solera Chardonnay is still as bonkers as the name (in a good way)! Afternoon @berrybrosrudd retasting the 2023s from Vignoble des Cabottes, which was briefly Domaine des Cabottes and before that, Domaine Bouchard Père & Fils. Got it? Good. I like the labels, each unique and depicting the rows that comprise the parcel of vine. Kind of minimalist with useful details on the back label.
