My view from my building’s work room. I feel like the picture still has a hard time capturing the beauty of the escapement in the back. When the sun sets, it becomes so beautiful.

During French class, I just kept getting distracted by the view and it reminded me how much I need it. Just staring out a view and looking at nature.

Now that it is October. I decided to post some photos of September.

September was quite busy with Indigo’s Free Book Day, a Literary Festival, and library visits.

My daughters and I got up quite early to get in line for Indigo’s book giveaway but apparently not early enough. We weren’t able to get a free book but we learned a lesson for next time.

The Mississauga Literary Festival was my first Literary Festival. It was quite interesting meeting authors and publishers. My daughter met her favourite author and got a signed book which was nice. Afterwards, we attended a writing workshop by her favourite author.

For the library, I go once a week to get new books and return old ones. They also have cool things at the library like therapy lamps, a garden outside, and fun scavenger hunts. My daughters and I can spend a whole day there.

How was everyone else’s September?

I’m still here!

Though I’m not online as much, I’ve been reading like crazy. I’ve finished book series like Beartown and reading standalones like The Correspondent and Heart the Lover.

Currently I’m reading Taipei Story by @kuangrf and listening to Anatomy of an Alibi by @ashleyelston .

What is everyone else reading?

My kids were studying for a test so I decided to plop down next to them to do some learning and writing.

I’ve been taking my time to learn about story structure after taking a workshop on How to Get Published by Brian Henry.

One of the authors mentioned that after her first book, she had to learn story structure as the publisher wanted her to provide them an outline for her next book. She suggested Save the Cat and how it helped her write.

So of course I started to read and write along side with it. One chapter at a time. Did pretty well today.

And yes, I did annotate as I read the book. I wanted to highlight things that I found important or very helpful.

Kind of proud of myself. Has anyone else used Save the Cat before to write?

I know I’ve been absent for the past couple of weeks. Every time I went on IG, I just took a pause. My depression was making headway this past couple of weeks. Sleeping a lot more. Watching tv.

Luckily, there have been times where I go out with my kids like yesterday. My daughter won a gift card from @tdsrc_cletd for a bookstore called @differentdrummerbooks .

It was by the lake so we took a nice stroll with our new books and enjoyed some reading by the water.

These simple moments just make my day.

I bought this Reverie journal by @mymellowdays a few months ago. I thought I had accidentally deleted the video of my unboxing it but I just found it so I had to post it.

I just love this journal. The pages are perfect for watercolours and mixed media. I like that it’s dotted so my writing can be neat.

The paper is cold pressed cotton. I just love the feel of it. You can tell it’s high quality.

I bought two others along with this one. One as a present for my friend and an extra for myself since this is coming all the way from France.

I’m going to be using this one as a book journal and my traveller’s one as daily journal.

Anyone else have a favourite brand of journals? I just love my stationary.

I’ve been reading quite a lot. I’m almost done Wild Dark Shore by @charlottemcconaghy and it’s been a fantastic ride.

I finally overcame my struggle with tackling Winners by @backmansk by giving myself a break before getting back into it. But I know it’s going to emotionally ruin me.

Just yesterday, I received some ARCs from @simonschusterca and I’m quite excited to tackle them.

I might have to take a break from my current reads to read them all on time. I think I’m most excited to read Avalon Towers.

What are your current reads?

I went out to get my daughter’s ear pierced over the weekend. While we waited for the numbing cream to kick in, I decided to sketch.

I added and took some things out to make it easier to sketch. It was hard to show the depth of the couch and the lines.

Any advice? Would love some as I’m still learning to sketch what’s in front of me.

Here’s some book recs to help you get out of that reading slump:

Atmosphere by @tjenkinsreid
It’s not just a love story, but a story of going after something you love and perusing your dreams.

Yellowface by @kuangrf
A story with an unreliable narrator and gives you a glimpse into the publishing industry. This story will get you sometimes cheering for the MC and sometimes wanting to swear at her.

Broken Country @clarelesliehall
A mysterious court case. A love story. The beauty of the countryside. This story will have your heart wrenching. Might need some tissues.

I’m Glad My Mom Died by @jenetemcurdy
Jennette’s raw writing style takes you in as she describes her life with her mother and her journey through dealing with eating disorders and much more.

Wild Dark Shore by @charlottemcconaghy
A book I’m currently reading that got me out of my own reading slump. The mystery of the island that they’re stuck on reels you in. Each character has their quirks and how the author explores the seed vaults and climate change in a riveting novel is amazing.

Have you read any of these? Do you have any books to add to the list?

I devoured Every Version of You by Natalie Messier (@natalie.messier ).

It started out slow as Joey was introduced but I was completely hooked when I got to Alex. His introduction is just *chef’s kiss*.

The chemistry between them is off the charts versus Joey and Ellie, her crush and best friend. Even though the story felt a little predictable, it’s the ride of it that enthralls you. The mystery of what happened between Alex and Joey, the concept of a second chance at life, and the thrill of the banter between Joey and Alex.

Did I also mention that there’s some spicy scenes? So spicy that I read them twice. 🥵🌶️

I look forward to reading more novels by Natalie Messier.

Thank you to @simonschusterca and @netgalley for providing the ARC.

Meet Me in Paris by Kristin Harmel (@kristinharmel )is not just a single story, it is a novel filled with stories of romance and hope. There is not just one main character, there’s many. What I like about this story is that any of these characters can resonate with you.

For me, it was Shelby and Melanie. As a recently divorced single mom myself, I found their stories about the struggles in their marriages and finding their own happy ending to be hopeful. Don’t get it wrong. It is not handled like a fairy tale. They’re not rescued by another man. Nope. Shelby decides to find herself before committing to a relationship while Melanie finds peace being on her own.

I found the couples, Lou and George and Nadim and Kayla, could have been done better. I felt they were more on the outside the story and added in for inclusivity. I would love to have seen them be more a part of the overall plot. All the other couples affected one another in a way. But these two couples really don’t except for Lou and George giving Russ some advice. I think they were used to add in the historical aspect of the story like the Vietnam and World War 2. I did appreciate the historical aspect, especially the story of the Muslims in Paris helping the Jews escape. It seemed very relevant to the current events in the Middle East.

I found Julia’s story was almost too good to be true, but I still loved it. I think I was cheering for her and ‘Sam’.

Overall, this novel leaves you feeling hopeful and believe in love stories once more.

Thank you to @simonschusterca for letting me read this ARC.

Anyone else just finished a good read?

My girls and I went out to the lakeside in Oakville to enjoy the weather and view.

I’ve been working on this painting forever I feel like. I finally got to the painting stage but then my daughter started getting freaked out by the bugs. 🤦‍♀️

But it was nice to just take in the beauty of the water and the breeze.

We even snacked on onigiri and custard buns from T&T (an Asian supermarket).

What’s your favourite snack to enjoy when you’re out?
