Exciting to have a submission accepted and published by @dazed magazine featuring women in grappling.

I love my sport and my community and it’s really cool to be able to use my work to put a spotlight of any size on what we do.

Managed to podium at my first euros and despite knowing I am capable of much better performance wise, I’m still really proud of myself. Even more so knowing that that’s a statement I’d have struggled to make (and actually mean it) previously.

At the start of this year I took a leap of faith opening @trainuplifted_ and threw my everything into it. I knew that chasing my business dreams would mean my sport taking a back seat, I was ok with it, but it still took a while to adjust when it came to competing.

What was the point if every opponent I faced was taking it so much more seriously than I was? Could I even get better off such little training? In the end I decided to just start saying “fuck it why not” and take a good crack at everything that came my way regardless.

Since committing to that mentality and taking the pressure off, I’ve had my best competition year to date. Most importantly, the level of joy and pride I feel from stepping out on those mats is ten fold what it used to be, and the result doesn’t really play into whether or not I get to feel it anymore. After all, when the goal is experience everything is a win.

I’ve wanted to do this comp for years, and I’m so glad that switch in mindset stopped me from putting it off another year. I finally did the damn thing regardless of circumstances and that in itself is enough.

I can be dissappointed and still proud. Happy and still hungry for more next time. But I cannot begin to explain how freeing it feels to have finally found that balance. 😌

An incredibly special weekend with even more special people. Topped off by getting promoted to brown belt by my best friends @josh_ronfell @brotherhoodperformance, captured by one of my favourite humans ever @violetxanthebennett. When you have people like them in your corner, you win every single day 🥹🤎.

I have a lot to learn when it comes to tournament jiu jitsu, but it’ll only come with experience. I’m excited to keep saying “fuck it why not”, putting myself out there and doing the hard things in sport and in life in general ❤️‍🔥 by @violetxanthebennett

Last month, our sponsored athlete @injanagoodman achieved an enormous milestone in her career: competing at the ADCC Grappling World Championships.

She won two rounds of European trials to do it. The thing is, Injana not only worked incredibly hard to secure her spot at the world championships, but led a worldwide campaign to dismantle gender inequality within her sport at the same time. We were more than happy to keep her caffeinated along the way.

Professional male athletes receive double the prize money for winning ADCC worlds than women do, have two opportunities to win regional trials to qualify for worlds compared to only one opportunity for women, and also have the opportunity to compete in an open weight category at worlds whereas women no longer do.

It’s outdated, it’s deeply sexist and it’s wrong.

Here at @lucidcoffeeroasters we believe in equality for all and we believe in fighting hard for it, whether it’s in coffee or any other world.

We’re so proud to support a young woman as brave, tenacious and principled as Injana. Her incredible skill on the mats is really one of the least impressive things about her.

Well done for fighting the good fight Injana, we’re so proud of you. by @violetxanthebennett
