When wildlife carer Gillian Abbott rescued a two-month-old orphaned kangaroo later named Doodlebug, he was tiny, frightened, and missing the safety of his mother’s pouch. To help him feel secure, she gave him a teddy bear. He immediately wrapped his arms around it and rarely let it go.

Brown boobies are tropical seabirds found across the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. They are best known for their remarkable plunge-diving ability, folding their wings and diving into the water from impressive heights at speeds that can exceed 60 mph (97 km/h) to catch fish and squid. Their streamlined bodies, sharp eyesight, and air sacs beneath the skin help protect them from the impact of hitting the water at such high speeds, making them highly efficient ocean hunters.

Parrotfish are among the most colorful and recognizable fish found on tropical coral reefs, and they’re often photographed because of their bright patterns and unique facial features. Images taken from the right angle can make their beak-like mouths appear as though they’re smiling, which has helped them become a favorite subject for wildlife photographers and social media. While they may look cheerful, that expression is simply the result of their natural anatomy rather than an indication of emotion.

Beyond their appearance, parrotfish play a crucial role in keeping coral reefs healthy. They use their strong, beak-shaped teeth to scrape algae from coral, preventing it from overwhelming the reef, and in the process they grind up bits of coral that are later expelled as fine white sand. Some species can produce hundreds of pounds of sand each year, making parrotfish one of the ocean’s most important reef-maintenance species.

During breeding season, red foxes usually form monogamous pairs that work together to raise their young. While the female stays with the pups during their earliest weeks, the male hunts and brings food back to the family, helping the cubs survive.

Although foxes can form strong bonds, they aren’t lifelong mates in every case. If one partner disappears or dies, the surviving fox can pair with another mate in a future breeding season. Their priority is raising the next generation, giving their pups the best chance to thrive.

Water buffalo have an incredible ability to fully submerge underwater, even walking along riverbeds. 🐃

They can close their nostrils, slow their heart rate, and use their massive lungs to stay submerged while cooling off or avoiding insects and predators. Some have even been observed swimming long distances with only their horns or eyes above the surface. 😮💦

It is one of nature’s most unexpected sights, a massive land animal moving calmly beneath the water like it belongs there.
