Photobook Meet-Up #19 took over the Garden at Virgil Art House📸

Photographers from across LA brought their photobooks, zines, and prints, and others came just to browse. The afternoon spread across the Studio, the upstairs lounge, and the Garden, with pages passing hand to hand and pizza from @garagepizzala going around.

At our Virgil Art House launch party, guests sat down to draw.Our founder, Mark, collected the drawings and framed them, and now they hang in the Gallery here in Virgil Village.

Feel free to explore the artwork in the gallery along the way, but the meetup itself will take place in the designated back spaces, not in the gallery.

Against the Light, a new black-and-white photography show by Mario Nicholas Torres, opens at Virgil Art House on Thursday, October 22 at 7 PM 📸

The series grew out of Mario's ongoing collaboration with model Janelle Paramoure. Her tattoos, the work of many different artists, shift between drawing and abstraction in his light until ink and shadow read as one image. Before moving to LA in 2023, Mario spent twenty years in New York fashion photography, working alongside photographers like Annie Leibovitz.

Come meet Mario and Janelle on opening night. Framed prints in various sizes will be available for purchase ✨
