our song is out, my first ever collaboration with a musician

i have always loved an respected the craft of music, and it is not a craft that i have the bandwidth to practice myself. however, i have my lifelong love, writing, and writing poetry at that.

i took a years long hiatus from writing poetry, and returned to it after reading and practicing the artist's way. (that book really changed my life)

i returned to writing poetry, inspired by my husband, whose love of sea shanties and pirates and all things medieval is known to all who know him (or even those who don't, he gets told he looks like a pirate often)

i knew i also wanted to write a ballad, similar to Binnorie (also called the Twa Sisters), and bring that sort of vibe to my words

and so The Sailor's Wife was born. at first, i performed it at critique night, and then at an open mic poetry night, and then, i by chance came across an intriguing account, a musician with beautifully layered vocals, who to me, sounded like the sirens i wrote about. i reached out to her, and @virgo.verse graciously lent her talent to my words, she composed beautiful, original music, and sang my words with her enchanting voice. i am so humbled, and grateful to have worked with her, and i hope i have the honor to write for and work with her, and other musicians in the future

but for now, take a ten minute break, and get lost in the story of the Sailor's Wife, streaming now 🩷

singing in the kitchen!

I can feel you on the breeze
the forest air so green and happy
taking in an orange hue
I love the sun
and I love you

when I let the ocean fall
I no longer live inside its curls
it unfurls unruly waves and pearls

I’ve learned to love it how it is
it’s sometimes loud and often quiet
I am a body of water
I am a body of water

and every expression in between
I fell in love with the horizon line
where the sea touches the sky

I love it as it is
I love you as you are
I love it as it is
you know I love you as you are

I will watch the water here
I will watch it till it disappears
she will always be within me
she will always be within me

I’ve learned to love it how it is
it’s sometimes loud and often quiet
I am a body of water
I am a body of water
I am a body of water
