when ali & tucker asked if i’d do the flowers for their fundraiser, the answer was obvious before they finished the sentence.

they’re running the nyc marathon and raising money for head and neck cancer research at memorial sloan kettering — all in honor of cal, ali’s dad who passed away this year.

but here’s what made this feel like more than just my first gig: cal’s been quietly part of this flower journey from the beginning. back in september when i desperately needed a car to get to @worldsendschool , ali let me borrow his. so having my first arrangement be in his memory? feels like he’s still working his magic.

didn’t plan it, but the sunflowers looked like rings of fire — and ring of fire was his favorite johnny cash song. sometimes flowers just know things we don’t. shoutout to @floweraggregate for supplying these beauties.

real talk: there were moments i got stuck — knowing something looked off but not having the technical knowledge to understand why. that’s the humbling part of being a beginner. but also the exciting part. if anyone’s open to trading a floral lesson for some physical labor, a yoga lesson, or whatever else i can offer — let’s talk. always ready to learn.
