There was a time when chronic anxiety made being seen and speaking in front of others incredibly difficult. Now I’m on stage rapping, performing, speaking and stepping completely outside my comfort zone!

I contemplated posting this because I was not named Ms. York although I feel like her 😆😆 However, I’m proud of myself, proud of every contestant who stepped onto that stage and proud of all the other performers. I’m grateful for Dr. Walton, Randy, my ASAP fam, Tawasi, Sylvester, the judges and everyone else behind the scenes who made this all come together.

York College has made such an incredible impact on my life, and I’ll scream it from the mountaintops forever! So grateful for this experience, everyone who made it possible, all the love I received afterward, and my husband and sister for showing up, cheering me on, lifting me up and holding me down …10 toes.

Thank you to everyone who put in work. You did an amazing job. It feels great to do good. But I’m tired of Jamaica Queens being treated like a step child. There is no rational reason why we have to wait for gentrification to be finished in downtown Jamaica before we get garbage cans. We all need to demand cans. We need a date we can expect them. If we all come together, we can permanently transform this area. This is an embarrassment. We deserve better than this. It’s starts with us. The people have to do better and have more pride. Tokyo doesn’t have that many garbage cans, but it is clean. Because they take responsibility for their own garbage and have pride in their community. With that said we still need many more garbage cans. We need a person to clean the block. We need a public toilet. We need to create an environment here that people would respect and protect. Something to honor the rich history of Jamaica queens and all the great people that called it home. I’m calling all hands on deck to transform Jamaica Center. Sign the petition. Let’s plan, let’s build, let’s be great. AI data centers are coming to New York but before we rush forward, we need to ask: Who pays? Who benefits? And what do the communities get in return?

After hearing from Senator Kristen Gonzalez about the Responsible Data Center Development Act (S10642), one thing was clear: New Yorkers have an opportunity to make their voices heard.

So if you want to get involved? Contact Governor Kathy Hochul’s office and tell her you want the Responsible Data Center Development Act signed into law.

Whether you support it or still have questions, learn about what’s being proposed and stay engaged. Decisions about our energy, water, environment and communities deserve public participation.
