Four kilometres up from Prinos, Kazaviti is two villages on the green side of Thassos, close enough to walk between. Cobbled lanes. Tavernas under the plane trees. Local meat and wine that people drive up here for specifically. 💚

August fills the square. September hands it back. If you're looking at Greece in October, this is the part of the island that gets better!

The pine trees come all the way down to the sand here. 💙
That's the first thing you notice at Paradise Beach on the east coast of Thassos. Shade on one side, shallow turquoise water on the other, about ten steps in between.

September takes the edge off. The sea is still holding August's warmth. The sand starts emptying out by five.

You'll stay later than you planned, and you'll blame the light. 🌊

Summer here is measured in long tables and slow noons. 🍲🙌

The light softens over the water. The villages fill with the sound of company. Somewhere between the first plate and the last glass, time loosens its grip, and the noon stretches out the way island noons are meant to.

There's a version of Thassos you only meet by boat. The coastline opens up slowly, cove after cove, water shifting from deep blue to something closer to glass. You cut the engine and for a minute there's nothing but the sound of water against the hull and the sun on your shoulders. 🌞🚤

Real talk about Trypiti. It's about 2km from Limenaria, sand and pebbles mixed and the water is unbelievably clear. Bring goggles if you can, there's actually stuff to see down there. There's a little sea cave on one end worth swimming to. 🌊💙

Have you ever swum somewhere the shore is marble, not sand? 🤍

There's a beach in @visit_thassos called Marble Beach because of its smooth white pebbles.

The result is water that's so clear it looks unreal. @nikoltraveltales captured it exactly as it looks like. Bright and pure white! Add the green hills running right down to the sea and you're starting to get the picture.

It's also got one of the coolest backstories of any beach in Greece: the marble quarried on this same hillside was prized in antiquity, and pieces of it ended up in temples and statues across the Greek and Roman world.

There's a spot in the south of Thassos that photos never quite do justice. Giola, the Tear of Aphrodite, a pool the rock holds and the sea keeps topping up. You have to stand at the edge to get it. 🌊💙
