We were proud to kick off National Travel & Tourism Week right here in East Point! ✈️🌍

Hosted by EPCVB President Chantel Ross Francois and the EPCVB Board of Directors, the event brought together community leaders, elected officials, business partners and supporters to celebrate the impact tourism continues to have on our city and beyond.

A special thank you to State Senator Sonya Halpern, East Point Mayor Keisha Chapman, East Point City Councilwoman Andrea Caldwell, Nilesh Patel, Georgia Regional Director of the Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA), and longtime East Point business partner & CEO of This Is It! BBQ, Mr. Shelly “Butch Anthony,” for joining us as we recognized the importance of travel, tourism, economic growth and community connection.

We also appreciate everyone who attended and helped make the kickoff event such a success as we continue celebrating all week long!

And don’t miss the Pop-Up happening later today at Camp Creek Marketplace from 11AM–2PM with prizes, treats, family fun and a live broadcast from Smooth Jazz 101.1! 🎉

East Point welcomed the world in a special way as FIFA Legends joined Soccer in the Streets, community leaders, youth participants, and international guests for a day centered on mentorship, sports, and opportunity.

Legends including Stern John (Trinidad and Tobago), Renson Haynes (St. Vincent and the Grenadines), Lance Davids (South Africa), Jermaine Hue (Jamaica), and Judith Chimes (Nigeria) spent time with local youth, participated in a friendly match against Morehouse alumni players, shared their experiences with the media, and highlighted the importance of giving back to the next generation.

The event also featured a meaningful gift exchange between the FIFA Legends and Soccer in the Streets youth, creating connections that extend far beyond the game itself.

As East Point continues to welcome international athletes, visitors, and cultural exchanges, moments like these showcase the power of sport to unite communities and inspire future leaders.

William A. Russell High School was a historic public high school in East Point, Georgia. It was open from 1924 until it closed in 1988. The land was donated by John J. Eagan and the school was named after Confederate General William A. Russell. It was the oldest school in the Fulton County system when it closed in 1988 and consolidated with Woodland High, College Park High, and Hapeville High to form Tri-Cities High School. The official campus name of Tri-Cities High is Tri-Cities High School/William A. Russell campus to preserve its heritage.
