πŸ₯§ Happy National Dessert Day! At Blue Bonnet Cafe in Marble Falls, the claim to fame is its β€œpie as high as the sky” selection, featuring daily offerings such as German chocolate, apple, cherry, peach, peanut butter cream, lemon meringue and fudge. 🍌 Banana cream is the top seller, and it even offers weekday pie happy hour from 3 to 5 p.m.

πŸ” Beyond the pies, this longtime Hill Country diner serves sandwiches, milkshakes, burgers, Tex-Mex plates, all-day breakfast and old-school platters featuring hamburger steak with onions, fried chicken livers, pot roast and chicken-fried steak.

I went with the Hand-Battered Chicken-Fried Steak ($13.59), a 4-ounce cutlet served with sides and housemade biscuits. An 8-ounce portion is also available, but I wanted to save room for pie.

The first bite sent me straight back to the tray lunches I ate in high school. The mashed potatoes were a dead ringer for the ones I remember. We had rolls in high school, but dragging a piece of that biscuit through a scoop of mash and gravy had me seriously nostalgiamaxxing. All I needed was a carton of choccy milk.

The family-owned cafe dates to 1929 and has occupied its current location since 1946. If you're a fan of classic American comfort food or a solid breakfast, this is worth the trip! The cafe was voted Best Breakfast by π˜›π˜¦π˜Ήπ˜’π˜΄ 𝘏π˜ͺ𝘨𝘩𝘸𝘒𝘺𝘴 and named one of the Top 100 Breakfasts by π˜›π˜³π˜’π˜·π˜¦π˜ + π˜“π˜¦π˜ͺ𝘴𝘢𝘳𝘦.
