You probably know Echternach for its beautiful old town, charming streets and historic abbey. But how well do you really know Luxembourg's oldest town? 👀

Here are 5 things you might not know about Echternach! 🏘️

1️⃣ Its history goes way back. The town developed around an abbey founded in 698!

2️⃣ Its famous Hopping Procession has been part of UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2010.

3️⃣ You can actually spend the night in one of its medieval towers. 🏰

4️⃣ The Romans left their mark too! Near the lake, you'll find the remains of one of the largest Roman villas north of the Alps.

5️⃣ Back in medieval times, the town was protected by a 2 km wall with 15 towers and six gates.

How many of these did you already know? 👀

Autumn is one of the best times to see the Mullerthal Region, known as Luxembourg’s “Little Switzerland” for its dramatic rock formations and forest trails. 🍂

Echternach and Berdorf are two of the region’s best-known starting points, while Larochette brings a different side of Mullerthal with its castle and valley views.

For a shorter hike, the B2 trail from Berdorf is a 4.3 km loop through narrow rock passages, forest paths, and viewpoints around the Ruetsbech area.

If you do one hike in Luxembourg... make it this one! :)

Would you rather spend the day hiking or exploring one of the region’s towns?

🍇 Autumn in the Mullerthal Region also means grape season.

Around Rosport, vineyards form part of a landscape you might not immediately associate with our region. And when the grapes are ready, it’s time for local winemakers to take over.

Maison Viticole Roeder produces organic wines and Crémant from grapes grown on the limestone soils of the Hoelt, while Vins René Krippes works with Auxerrois, Pinot Gris and Riesling, focusing on small yields, late harvests and plenty of patience. 🍷
And in Fru, Georges Schiltz adds another local name to the mix, producing wine and Crémant right here in the region. 🥂

Three local producers – and another side of autumn in the Mullerthal Region worth discovering.
