✨Nara’s Fourth UNESCO World Heritage Site✨

Great news from Nara!
The “Ancient Capitals of Asuka and Fujiwara” has officially been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
This remarkable heritage site consists of 19 archaeological locations, including the remains of ancient palaces, ritual spaces, gardens, Buddhist temples, and tombs that have been preserved underground for more than 1,400 years.

From the late 6th to the early 8th century, Asuka-Fujiwara was the political and cultural heart of Japan and the birthplace of the nation’s first centralized state. Many Japanese regard this area as the spiritual home of Japan.

Mount Miwa — A Sacred Mountain in Nara ⛩️
In Sakurai, Nara, stands Ōmiwa Jinja Shrine, one of Japan’s oldest and most sacred places.
Unlike most Shinto shrines, Ōmiwa Jinja has no main sanctuary.

Before sunrise, Nosegawa Village floats above the clouds.

Located in the southern mountains of Nara Prefecture, this mountain village — with an average elevation of around 700 meters — becomes the stage for one of Nara's most evocative natural experiences: the sea of clouds.

On the right autumn morning — after rain the night before, a sharp temperature drop overnight, and still air at dawn — the valley fills with mist, and the mountain ridges and cedar silhouettes rise above it like islands. The landscape appears inverted: the sky below, the forest above.

When the conditions align, the landscape turns extraordinary. That is what makes it worth the early start.

Roughly 320 people call Nosegawa home, a mountain community preserved in its natural state — and it shows in what the mornings offer here.
