Before we unleash these sweet ear worms into your dang ole ear holes. I thought It might be nice to share a couple of tunes that helped me get inspired along the way.

1. Sparklehorse - Good Morning Spider
Slow, fast, cozy, harsh, beautiful, sad. Mark Linkous’s fragile voice and lyrics changed the way I view songwriting all together. Good Morning Spider is a great place to start.
.
2. Duster - Contemporary Movement
Like Sparklehorse, Duster opened up a whole different avenue of riffs and melodies for me. I love being a loud obnoxious punk about things. But sometimes it’s nice to slow down and turn that anger into something a little calmer, more beautiful. Still very destructive.
.
3. Robert Lester Folsom - Ode to a Rainy Day
Robert has mastered the feelings of combining love and melancholy. You gotta check it. It’s like a rainy day on the porch with your 12 string.
.
4. Grandpaboy - Mono
The first time I ever had to sing on stage in front of people, I thought to myself. “If Paul can sing so can I.” That’s no dig. Paul keeps it simple. The best music in the world is simple. Mono feels like getting sweaty in your basement, rocking out and recording every instrument yourself to a shitty tape recorder. That’s bliss. This record is bliss.
.
5. Paul Westerberg - Come Feel Me Tremble
Copy and paste everything I said about Mono and apply it here. Paul did it again. Rock n Roll Bliss.
.
6. Dinosaur Jr - Farm
I don’t need to explain to anyone why Dinosaur Jr fuckin shreds. I think secretly we all just wanna be in that band. Loud and beautiful. A perfect blending of the two worlds. Yup.
.
7. Chris Bell - I Am the Cosmos
One of the most underrated albums of all time. Chris can hold his own against some of them Beatle folks. Jam ‘I Am the Cosmos’ and ‘You and Your Sister’ and you’ll immediately catch my drift.
.
8. Golden Smog - Weird Tales
A supergroup of some of the best power pop mother fuckers to walk the Earth. ‘Please Tell My Brother’ is one of the best, most simple, stripped down songs to do it. Check it.
