Wendy’s Backyard was a great newly renovated Air BnB in the adventure city of Hurricane, UT!
Being at the gateway to Zion, it is also within 3.5hours of 5 other National Parks and within 2 hours of Las Vegas!
It is easily accessible and a great base for immersing yourselves in National Parks/Monuments and State Parks. Not only do they have these National Parks, but the following are also close by:
- Dixie National Forest
- ⁠Quail Creek State Park
- ⁠Sand Hollow State Park
- ⁠Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument
- ⁠Vermilion Cliffs National Monument
- ⁠Lake Powell
- ⁠Cities of Kanab and Page

If you are in town, the best places to visit for food, coffee and beer would be @riverrockroasters and @farmsteadbakery 🙌🏻
There’s also plenty more options in Hurricane thanks to the awesome @homestaysbyamyandcharly 🥰

Are you ready for 2025 adventure?!
Here are some fascinating facts about the sandstone formations in Zion National Park:
1. Navajo Sandstone Dominance: Zion’s iconic cliffs are primarily composed of Navajo Sandstone, a geological formation created from massive sand dunes that existed around 190 million years ago during the Jurassic Period.
2. Iron Oxide Colors: The vivid red, pink, orange, and yellow hues in the sandstone come from iron oxide (rust) within the rock layers. The different shades depend on the levels of oxidation and mineral content.
3. Vertical Cliffs: The sheer vertical faces of Zion’s sandstone cliffs are the result of a combination of erosion by the Virgin River and the area’s tectonic uplift, which raised the rock layers and made them more vulnerable to natural forces.
4. Cross-Bedding: Zion’s sandstone often features stunning cross-bedding patterns, which are diagonal layers within the rock. These patterns were formed by shifting wind patterns when the dunes were deposited millions of years ago.
5. Porosity and Water: Navajo Sandstone is highly porous, meaning it can store large amounts of water. This helps create Zion’s lush hanging gardens, as water seeps out of the rock to nurture plants and mosses.
6. Dynamic Erosion: The sandstone formations in Zion are constantly being shaped by water, wind, and ice, creating features like slot canyons, arches, and natural bridges. The Narrows is one of the most famous examples of this erosion process.
7. Zion’s Sandstone is Ancient: The sand grains in the Navajo Sandstone are made up mostly of quartz, some of which came from ancient mountains as far away as present-day Appalachia!
