We are pleased to invite you on October 16, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM in Room G0.4, to the presentation of two recent books by Nicholas Mirzoeff, Professor and Chair of the Department of Media, Culture, and Communication at New York University. The event will feature Gruppo Ippolita, editors of the Culture Radicali series published by Meltemi; Beatrice Catanzaro, Professor of Visual Arts at NABA, Lorenza Pignatti, Professor of Phenomenology of Contemporary Art at NABA, and Lucrezia Cippitelli, Professor of Aesthetics at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts. .

This meeting is the first of the NABA Reading Room series running throughout the 2026/2027 academic year, focusing on contemporary artistic contexts and theoretical questions. In the past, we have had the pleasure of hosting artists, curators, publishers, and thinkers such as Raqs Media Collective, Pierre Bal-Blanc, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Tiziana Villani, Ilona Németh, Crackers (with Chiara Bottici), and Antonella Huber, who shared their practices and experiences with our students.

During the presentation, we will discuss White Sight: Visual Politics and Practices of Whiteness, a book in which the author traces the genealogy of the ”white gaze“—paraphrasing Simone de Beauvoir, ”one is not born white, but becomes white.“ Mirzoeff analyzes racializing capitalism, the cultural significance of statues and monuments, decolonial demands, and white supremacy to encourage reflection on what is too often taken for granted and to unveil what the dominant gaze hides and shapes.

In Seeing in the Dark: Palestine and Visual Activism, the author delves into historical and contemporary visual culture materials. He bridges theory with contemporary media analysis, offering a framework aimed at educating our vision toward solidarity and resistance, positioning Palestine as the crossroads of all struggles against colonialism, oppression, and abuse of power.

Nicholas Mirzoeff @nicholasmirzoefftqm is a visual culture theorist and Professor of Media, Culture, and Communication at New York University. A pioneering figure in Visual Culture Studies, his work critically examines the intersections of visuality, race, racializing capitalism, taken in NABA MILANO Nuova Accademia Di Belle Arti by @visual_arts_naba

🍈We are still here, caught up in the excitement of Gerardo Iudicone’s first solo exhibition, presented by Gianni Politi: *Deposito morte Gerry*, organised by the Fondazione Pastificio Cerere in partnership with NABA, the Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti.
Gerardo Iudicone’s artistic practice revolves around obsessive themes that take on the character of guiding images. Through different practices and languages, the artist explores the dynamics of attraction, desire and projection, transforming seemingly ordinary subjects into explorations of the self. Gerardo Iudicone’s first solo exhibition fits perfectly with the mission of the Fondazione Pastificio Cerere, which has always been committed to supporting and promoting new generations of artists.
‘Deposito morte Gerry’ by Gerardo Iudicone, presented by Gianni Politi
until 14 November 2026.
Opening hours: Tuesday to Saturday from 3.00 pm to 7.00 pm and Mondays by appointment.

👾 Arianna Pontil Ceste’s research stems from a sense of dual belonging – both geographical and digital – which enables her to capture the dynamics and iconography of internet culture with the critical distance of someone who inhabits it without being fully part of it. Through painting, video and the direct use of the platforms themselves, she dissects the online landscape and crystallises viral moments, identifying deeper meanings within ‘chronically online’ culture and making them tangible.
Arianna Pontil Ceste is among the artists selected for the seventh edition of #6artista. A project for young artists, the residency programme conceived by Marcello Smarrelli for the Fondazione Pastificio Cerere sees new collaborations this year with the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome and NABA – Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti, whilst renewing its partnership with RUFA – Rome University of Fine Arts, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and SIAE as part of the #PerChiCrea programme.

🍈 On Tuesday 22 September 2026, Fondazione Pastificio Cerere, in partnership with NABA, Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti, hosts Deposito morte Gerry, the first solo exhibition by Gerardo Iudicone, presented by Gianni Politi.
The exhibition will be open to the public from Wednesday 23 September to Saturday 14 November 2026.

Deposito morte Gerry is an attempt to inhabit an obsession. Born from an irrational and persistent desire, the exhibition begins with the analysis of an apparently ordinary subject that is nonetheless able to trace an intimate, in-depth portrait of the artist’s psyche.
Gerardo Iudicone’s first solo exhibition perfectly reflects Fondazione Pastificio Cerere’s mission, which has always been committed to supporting and promoting new generations of artists and, through educational programmes, residencies, and research activities, contributes to enriching the contemporary art landscape. taken in Fondazione Pastificio Cerere by @visual_arts_naba

Fashion, visual arts and performance came together to transform NABA’s Rome campus for one unforgettable night. ✨

On 1 July, GROUNDS celebrated the campus’ first six years by bringing contemporary creative practices into the same space, with research, experimentation and dialogue unfolding live throughout the evening.

GROUNDS. RECIPES. NABA Fashion Show 2026 put collections by third-year BA in Fashion Design students in the spotlight, while GROUNDS. Transformative Space Binding explored the relationship between body, movement, and urban space through an exhibition-performance in constant evolution.

Works by BA in Painting and Visual Arts students, curated by MA in Visual Arts and Curatorial Studies students, shifted and transformed as the night unfolded, eventually becoming part of a live performance that opened up new perspectives on artistic research, education and creative practice.

What happens when visual arts, performance, and fashion design take over the same space?

On 1 July, GROUNDS. Transformative Space Binding landed at NABA’s Rome campus, turning the relationship between body, movement and urban space into an open, evolving laboratory you could actually step inside.

Part exhibition, part live performance, the project brought together work by students from the BA in Painting and Visual Arts and the MA in Visual Arts and Curatorial Studies, pushing creative research beyond the page and into an experience unfolding live.

Via dei Tre Archi 5, Roma

A group exhibition activated through a guided sound piece: a monologue interwoven with audio contributions by each artist, developed in relation to their respective works. The exhibition proposes a reconstructed spatial experience in which space becomes self-reflexive—a meta-space generating a feedback loop between viewer, artwork, and architecture.

Curated by the students of the MA in Visual Arts and Curatorial Studies at NABA, Rome, as part of the course led by Jos de Gruyter.

Special thanks to:
– Cesare Pietroiusti for his guidance

Intervengono:
ANGA - Art Not Genocide Alliance
Santa Nastro (vicedirettrice Artribune, docente Naba)
Lorenza Pignatti (Il Manifesto, docente Naba)
Marco Scotini (direttore artistico Naba).

We invite you to the opening of ASCENSIO [-onis, f.] Prendere Forma — Perdere Forma, a group exhibition curated by Giordana Sterlino (MA in Visual Arts and Curatorial Studies), opening on 13 June (4pm–12am) at Castello Masegra (Sondrio), featuring a DJ set in the courtyard, and on view until 27 June. The exhibition brings together international artists from the BA and MA programs in Visual Arts: Alexandra Motta, Ani Rogu, Aurora Profetti, Gaia De Vita, Hinrik Ingólfsson, Natalie Ayoub, Silvia D’Ubaldi, and Valerio Gelsomini.

Rooted in the layered identity of Castello Masegra, the exhibition reflects on the body as an organism destined to exceed its own anatomy. The exhibition unfolds as an ascending movement: on the ground floor, the physical body, exposed to vulnerability and desire; the first floor transcends the limits of the physical body towards utopian imaginaries and altered perception.

Castello Masegra becomes an architectural skin that protects and exposes other unstable bodies, inducing them to Take—Lose their own Form.

—

Vi invitiamo all’inaugurazione di ASCENSIO [-onis, f.]
