Remembering @sliman.mansour as one of the most respected and talented Palestinian artists of all time.

He’ll go down in history alongside Ismail Shammout, Naji Al Ali, and many of his peers.

Not only was he a great artist, but the many tributes to him over the past day have shown how beloved he was as a person as well. by @visualart4palestine

Sohail Salem is a Gaza-based artist who over the past few years has been making ink drawings in UNRWA notebooks, most often in blue.

His artistic background also includes sculpture, installation art, photography, and graphic design.

Sohail has taught as a professor at Al-Aqsa University (where he also got his degree) and is a Co-Founder of the local Gaza arts org Eltiqa’ Group for Contemporary Arts (along with Raed Issa), which helped set up workshops and exhibitions for local artists.

During the past years, he has faced many difficulties like all in the Strip for daily life. He also was abducted by the IOF and interrogated after they stormed his family’s home and separated him from them until forcing him to walk seven hours to Deir Al Balah to try to find them again.

Both before and since 2023, Sohail’s work has been exhibited internationally. For this latest ink series, they have been digitally re-printed onto mock notebooks for those around the world to see and hold at events like the traveling Gaza Biennale.

In an interview with Third Text in April 2026, as part of the Eltiqa group, Sohail said, “Is it possible to overcome what happened? Do I feel let down by the world? Can art influence and change anything in our lives, or is it merely a narration of events and a documentation of the tragedy and devastation that occurred?” by @visualart4palestine

Whether it be the bond with Egypt’s team or the stark contrast of the conditions on the ground as the tournament is put on by complicit countries and organizations, artists have captured the spirit of Palestine at the World Cup in different ways.
