I realized I haven’t posted a proper introduction, so I put together some slides to give an idea of why I’m here.

I started this account as a place to share what I’m doing artistically and as a traveler since for me the two can’t be separated. It’s mostly been my experiments in lettering so far, but that’s just one creative outlet for me. I hope to keep it loose and show not just the work that goes well but the experiments that become “learning moments” 😅

Saturday was my 16 year nomad-iversary!!! On August 15th, 2010 I hit the road with my partner at the time for a six month road trip. I didn’t set out to be a full time traveler but it didn’t take me long to figure it out suited me.

At year 11 created the lettering on the third slide and wanted to update the concept. I changed the wording after recalling Rolf Potts book ”Vagabonding: An Uncommon Guide to the Art of Long-Term World Travel”. I remembered listening to audio book and feeling like everything he said hitting home in me.

Here are a couple of my favorites:

“Vagabonding is about looking for adventure in normal life, and normal life within adventure.”

“The simple willingness to improvise is more vital, in the long run, than research.”

“Vagabonding is an attitude—a friendly interest in people, places, and things that makes a person an explorer in the truest, most vivid sense of the word.

“Vagabonding is about time—our only real commodity—and how we choose to use it.”

“having an adventure is sometimes just a matter of going out and allowing things to happen in a strange and amazing new environment—not so much a physical challenge as a psychic one.”

I took the coast North on my way out of Portland and spent a couple days in Astoria for the first time in probably 10 years. I really liked the vibe of of all the docks and watching big ships come and go. Lots of great breweries, classic film history (Goonies, Short Circuit, and Kindergarten Cop were filmed here), and a lot of cool signs and letters. So I spent the day walking around and collected samples for my is inspiration library 🙂

“Solstice”
Day 169 of lettering everyday until 500 followers.
Using lettering projects to help myself get acquainted with Procreate. Still having some trouble adjusting to the pressure on the one and have just to basic understanding of functions but am enjoying the process.

I created the custom lettering in illustrator (second slide) and then took it into Procreate to play with brushes. Will need to learn how to adjust colors by layer next as the contrast on the letters is much lower than I would prefer.
