Cheryl Dunye made history as the first out Black lesbian to direct a feature-length film with The Watermelon Woman.

As a director, writer, and producer, her work centers Black women, LGBTQ+ experiences, and preserving queer history through storytelling that continues to inspire generations of filmmakers.

Cheryl’s career is a reminder that representation matters and that telling authentic stories can change the way we see ourselves and each other. ✨

Take a behind-the-scenes look at the animation process as we fine-tune the pilot episode of “Knox Knows Best” with synchronized mouth movements that make the characters feel even more expressive.

While it may look effortless, updating dialogue animation after a project is complete is a highly technical process. Every movement has to blend seamlessly with the original artwork while staying true to the original creative vision.

Using a combination of animation expertisej, creativity, and AI-powered tools, @alsmithtv is helping us take this project to the next level.

We had an incredible time at @laliff_ to celebrate the screening of And Then Everything Turned Itself Inside Out, a film @cheziktsu executive produced.

Written and directed by @mercedelizondo the film follows a man faced with uncovering the truth of a past life in a world where birthmarks reveal who people once were and how they died. A thought-provoking story that explores memory, identity, and the choices that shape us.

At SIFF’s closing night last night, it was announced that our proposal has been awarded a PBS Cascade grant to produce a new docuseries, which will air in early 2027, about the history of Black people in the Pacific Northwest (and Seattle in particular) through the lens of Black music.

Directed by @cheziktsu and produced by Porter and me, this deeply personal project will also explore the policies and practices that created the Central District, and the immense (and often overlooked) cultural and artistic output that grew from it. by @visuallyinspiredproductions
