Eliseo,
Your life. Your art. Your love. Your people. We gathered to celebrate you, and my deepest hope is that you felt it. The colossal love you gave was matched by everyone who showed up for you, to tell stories and hold each other as we feel our way through this grief.
It has been six weeks since you left. The only way we made it to this day is love. It came from our family, our friends, our soul family and our art family, who carried us when we couldn’t carry ourselves. Every message, meal and check-in kept us going.
We held your celebration at VP, your home away from home. Nowhere else could have been right. Your work was everywhere: the color, the lines, the shapes only your hands and your sacred, generous heart could bring into being. I am so proud of you. Standing among it, I was standing inside our life together. You painted it for us. You left it for us.
In my darkest moments, I have felt you holding me from some place I can’t name. I don’t need to explain it. I just feel you, and I am so grateful.
Living without you is the hardest thing I will ever do. But I am doing it, for you and for our Max. We are keeping our plan: sending him to New York and art school to make his own beauty in this world, just as you dreamed. I can already feel how proud you are.
To Wyatt, Myrna and the whole VP family: thank you for creating a space where I can still walk in and feel him. I am humbled beyond words.
To our friends and family who lifted and gathered and made this day so beautiful: I love every one of you.
To everyone who has given to Max’s GoFundMe: your generosity is carrying Eliseo’s dream forward. Thank you, from the deepest place in our hearts.
And to you, my love, thank you for this life. In color. In lines. In shapes only you could make. My cutes. Forever. ❤️🌹 taken in Visual Philosophy by @visualphilosophystudio

PLEASE JOIN US for the opening reception of JOY OF RESISTANCE a group art show!

I am inspired by the creativity in resistance that has poured out into our streets. I am motivated by the frog and unicorn blow-up costumes, the dance parties, bubbles flowing from overpasses, murals, gay drum parades, sing-alongs, and insanely creative protest signs. We celebrate this tool crucial to our survival in these times. Joy is the most powerful force against tyranny.

A group of friends came in to try something new.
The prompt was friendship.

They each painted their piece
then we brought it all onto one canvas.

I stepped in at the end
just to tie it together
carry their energy across the whole piece.

Nothing better than watching friends
let go and create together.

Come join us this month, Saturday April 11th, from 5-8pm for the opening reception of our latest exhibition: How are you today?

This show captures a snapshot of an artist’s day and their creative process. For this exhibition, artists have submitted both their artwork and an accompanying journal entry. Art is rarely finished in a day, and never exists independently of the happenings in our lives. With these entries, we peek into one small part of the artist’s whole process: what motivates them, what distracts them, and what inspires them, whether art-related or not. taken in Visual Philosophy by @visualphilosophystudio

Save the date! Our first community show of the year, featuring the new work of 15+ local artists is next month on February 14th from 5-8pm

This exhibition centers on what it means to create as artists working side by side—sharing space, tools, techniques, ideas, and inspiration.
Common Ground celebrates the collaborative spirit, mutual support, and creative synergy that arise within shared artists experiences.

We’ll see you there! by @visualphilosophystudio
