When anti-fat culture is loud, it can start to mess with your sense of reality. It can make you feel like everyone is trying to shrink, and you’re the only one resisting or asking why.

You’re not.

There are writers, researchers, organizers, doctors, activists, and communities who have been naming this for years. Anti-fat bias is not just a feeling; it’s a system.

It shows up in medical care, fashion, families, media, workplaces, social policies, childhood, public spaces, and in the ways we talk about food, health, and worth.

Rather than giving more energy to the anti-fat commentary we’re receiving, we’re choosing to focus on the people, resources, and communities fighting back against anti-fat bias.

When anti-fat bias feels loud, these are a few places to turn for language, context, care, and a reminder that you’re not alone.

Viva Voce was created as a community-first movement and marketplace because we know how powerful it can be to find spaces where fat people are not treated like problems to solve.

We’re proud to build alongside a community that believes in belonging, connection, size-inclusion, and care. We’re proud to partner with brands committed to size-inclusion and conscious practices, making fashion that actually considers us.

There are so many incredible books, podcasts, advocates, and organizations doing this work. What would you add to this list?

Weight stigma has been normalized for so long that people forget it’s discrimination, but we don’t.

We don’t accept weight stigma as a norm.

How much time and energy have we spent worrying about our bodies, how we look, or how others see us? What could we do with that time and energy if we got even a little of it back?

These are questions Amy, our new CEO, recently asked in conversation with our founder, @kateherenow.

Amy acknowledges that she's experienced a lot of body privilege and hasn't faced the same barriers so many in our community have.

Something she hopes Viva Voce can help make possible for people is giving us one less thing to worry about.

Because finding clothes that fit, that feel like you, and that make you feel good shouldn't take so much of our time and energy.

👀 What's something you'd love to spend more of your time and energy on?
🎧 Get to know Amy a little better by listening to her full conversation with Kate, now on our site (link in bio!).

Viva Voce was created for so much more than shopping for clothes. 🫶

Our founder, @kateherenow, recently joined @bodyimagewithbri on her podcast, The Body Grievers® Club, for a conversation about:

🛍️ Why Kate started Viva Voce and the movement we're building
📢 Anti-fat bias and how it shows up in our lives
👖 The myths surrounding plus-size fashion, from costs and styles to demand
🗣️ The realities of body grief and living in a larger body
❤️ And so much more!

We're so grateful for conversations like these that give us space to talk openly about experiences so many of us share.

🎧 Listen to the full conversation in episode 99 of The Body Grievers® Club, linked in our bio!
