When Life Gives You Tangerines (2025) is a heartwarming slice-of-life romance set on Jeju Island, following the lives of Oh Ae-sun (IU) and Yang Gwan-sik (Park Bo-gum). Rather than focusing on a single romance, the drama spans nearly 50 years, showing how love, family, dreams, and sacrifice evolve across generations.Ae-sun is a bright, outspoken girl who dreams of becoming a poet, despite growing up in poverty and facing constant setbacks. Gwan-sik, the quiet and dependable son of a fisherman, has loved her since childhood. While Ae-sun is impulsive and passionate, Gwan-sik is steady and unwavering, always supporting her through life's hardships.
The story follows the couple from the 1960s into old age as they endure family opposition, financial struggles, personal loss, and South Korea's changing society. Along the way, they raise children, chase unfulfilled dreams, and learn that love is shown not through grand gestures but through decades of loyalty and sacrifice. The drama also highlights Jeju's unique culture, especially the lives of the haenyeo (female free divers), and explores themes of motherhood, resilience, and generational hope.
