“The beauty of martial arts lies not only in the techniques, but in the people who carry its knowledge.”

It was a pleasure to meet Sifu Jacques Li of Wing Chun Mauritius, Sifu Liang Dong Sheng of Foshan Wing Chun, and the father of Mauritian Karate, Shihan Georges Li Ying Pin of the Joshinmon Shorin Ryu Karate Federation.

I was deeply moved by their hospitality, guidance, and approach to martial arts. Their passion, wisdom, and dedication to preserving and sharing their knowledge are truly inspiring.

Thank you for welcoming me and sharing your journey in Kung Fu and Karate.

Merci Sifus and Shihan! 🙏🥋

“The beauty of the art depends on the master AND the student.” 🥋

A very special thank you to Hanshi Datuk Chin Mok Sung for sharing his incredible journey and wisdom on developing successful students in Karate.

Known as the Father of Karate in Malaysia, Hanshi Datuk Chin Mok Sung has dedicated himself to the growth and preservation of Karate in Malaysia since 1966 — a journey that continues to this day and, we hope, for many more years to come. 🇲🇾🥋

At 83 years old, he is still actively teaching, still sharing his knowledge, and still carrying the same deep passion for Karate and for the development of the next generation.

His journey reminds us that a true master is not measured only by the techniques they know, but by the students they inspire, develop and leave behind.

OSS! 🙏🥋

Thank you, Hanshi, for continuing to guide the art and the people who carry it forward.

Special thanks to our sponsor @trainixcombat

“Every martial art is bad if you don’t practice.” 🥋🔥

Every martial art carries knowledge 📚, history 📜 and purpose 🎯 — but without practice, that knowledge remains only theory.

A huge thank you to Profesor Madya Dr. Mohamad Nizam bin Mohamed Shapie for enlightening us on Silat Melayu. 🇲🇾🙏

You didn’t just teach us about Silat Melayu 🥋, but also shared the history, philosophy 🧠 and practicality ⚔️ behind the art. It was truly an eye-opening experience to understand the deeper meaning behind the movements and the culture that has preserved this knowledge through generations. ❤️🇲🇾

Thank you also for the wonderful books 📚 that you generously shared with us. They are a valuable addition to our journey of learning and understanding Silat Melayu. 🙏✨

And a special thank you to @trainixcombatstore for sponsoring this meaningful session. 🤝🔥 Your support helps us continue our journey to discover, learn and preserve the rich martial arts heritage of Malaysia. 🇲🇾🥋

Looking forward to our next session soon!

🇲🇾🥋 The rhythm of a culture. The history behind every movement.

We had the honour of meeting Mestre Braulio in Petaling Jaya and witnessing how the Capoeira community continues to thrive here in Malaysia.

What struck us most was how music brings everyone together. The berimbau, the songs, the rhythm — they create a connection that goes far beyond the roda. 🎶

But Capoeira is more than dance.

Every movement carries history. Every step tells a story. And behind the beauty, rhythm and flow are techniques born from a martial art where movements could be used to fight, defend and even kill.

It is culture, music, movement and history — all living together in one roda.

Thank you, Mestre Braulio, for sharing a glimpse into this incredible art and showing us how Capoeira continues to unite people in Malaysia. ❤️🇲🇾

“Don’t blame the art. Blame your understanding.”

We were truly honoured to meet Sifu Simon, a 4th-generation practitioner of Ip Man Wing Chun Kung Fu in Malaysia. 🥋🇲🇾

Sifu Simon carries forward knowledge passed down through his Grandmaster, Chow Tze Chuan — a training partner of the legendary Ip Man — while dedicating himself to teaching and preparing the next generation of martial artists.

This is more than simply learning techniques.

It is about preserving a lineage, understanding the principles behind the movements, and carrying forward knowledge that has been passed from one generation to the next.

And today, that lineage continues.

Proudly stepping into the 5th generation, Abraham Joel Victor continues the journey of learning, preserving and sharing the knowledge of Ip Man Wing Chun Kung Fu. 🙏🥋

Because martial arts is not something you simply learn.

It is something you inherit, understand, practice and ultimately pass on.

The art was never the problem.

Sometimes, we just need to deepen our understanding.

“Are you here to be taught or are you here to learn?”

We were truly honoured to meet Shihan Joe Thambu, an Aikido legend originally from Seremban, Malaysia, who now resides in Australia, continuing to hone his craft and carry forward the legacy of Master Thamby Raja. 🥋🇲🇾🇦🇺

Meeting a master is not simply about learning techniques. It is about understanding the philosophy, discipline, history and responsibility behind the art.

Shihan Joe Thambu represents a living connection between generations — preserving the teachings and legacy passed down by Master Thamby Raja while continuing to evolve and share the art of Aikido with the world.

A true reminder that martial arts are not merely about being taught.

They are about being willing to learn. 🙏

Honoured. Inspired. Grateful.

🌿 மூலிகைகள் உரசும் ஓசை… 🌿
The rustling of herbs…

Honoured to meet Dato’ Sivakumar from Silambam Malaysia 🙏🏽🇲🇾

A true martial art genius 🥋🔥 who dedicates himself to preserving not only the art of Silambam, but also the culture, history and heritage behind it. 📜⚔️

I truly appreciate his kind gesture and generosity in sharing his knowledge and giving us an honest insight into the struggles of popularising Silambam in Malaysia.

Every movement carries history.
Every technique carries tradition.
Every warrior carries a legacy. 🥋❤️

It was an honour to listen, learn and understand the passion required to keep this incredible art alive for generations to come. 🙏🏽

The battle is not only to preserve the art — but to ensure its story is never forgotten. ⚔️🔥

One of the most valuable lessons from meeting Master Meor of Meor Martial Arts Academy wasn't just about technique—it was about wisdom. 🥋⚔️

As Master Meor shared:

"In a knife fight, the loser dies in the street, and the winner dies in the hospital."

It is a powerful reminder that there are no real winners in a knife fight. The greatest skill is avoiding violence whenever possible. Engage only when it is absolutely necessary to protect yourself or others, because the consequences can be life-changing for everyone involved. 🛡️

Thank you, Master Meor, for sharing your knowledge and the practical realities behind Kali in Malaysia. These are the stories and lessons we're honoured to bring to life in Hidden Fists of the South East. 🎥🌏
