Your eyes can LIE to you. And when it comes to light, they do it all the time. 👀

You can look at two lights that appear perfectly white, but that doesn’t mean they contain the same color information.

That’s where my little spectrometer comes in. Pretty groovy piece of equipment, actually. 😉

It measures the color information in a light that your eyes simply can’t detect. And if that information is missing, how are you supposed to make accurate color decisions?

I measured the custom TML lights in my studio, and they came in at 98.6 CRI. Not too shabby!

This is why I keep talking about LIGHT THEORY. We spend so much time learning color theory, but none of it works the way it should if we don’t understand the light we’re working under.

You can’t see color that isn’t in the light. Period.

Let’s talk about bare LEDs vs. edge-lit light, because brighter doesn’t always mean better. 👀

Those little bare LEDs can be groovy for certain things, but pointed directly at someone’s face, they can be incredibly intense on the eyes.

TML works differently. Our LEDs sit at the edge and send light through a light guide, creating a softer, wider expanse of light for you to actually work under.

It’s not just about how much light you have. It’s about how that light reaches you. 💡

The work starts LONG before anyone steps in front of the camera.

For Victoria and Vivian, Day One actually started the night before. Turning a small studio into separate makeup and hair spaces, figuring out the flow, getting the lighting right, and making sure everything was ready for 10 actors and multiple looks the next morning.

Because your setup matters. Your light matters. You need to be able to SEE the work you’re doing before the camera ever does.

The new Key Light Icon gives you more control without having to stop what you’re doing. Turn it on and off, dim it, or jump between 5200K, 4200K, 3200K and 2800K from across the room.

And if you want to get really specific? Dial in the color temperature in between, right from the dimmer.

More temperatures. More control. Less interrupting your flow.

Here’s WHY we gave the new Key Light Icon multiple color temperatures. 👀

As makeup artists, we don’t always know where our work is going next. Flash. Daylight. An office. A ballroom. A red carpet. Your client can move through completely different lighting environments in a single day.

So I want to SEE the makeup in those different temperatures before they ever leave my chair.

I still do my makeup under 5200K, but now with Icon, I can move through 2800K, 3200K, 4200K and 5200K, plus everything in between, and actually see how my work responds.
