I used to get angry visiting the North and seeing children taught in local language.
I thought to myself, how will these children communicate with the rest of the world.

imagine how i felt when I found out it was actually Nigerian government policy.

The National Policy on Education mandates mother tongue instruction in early primary education. It has existed since the 1970s. I studied education as my first degree. I worked in education. I worked and run an NGO. I am a social worker student and I did not know my own country's education policy.

This is part of our problem.

We show up to fix systems we have not taken time to understand. We design interventions for challenges we have not properly studied. We advocate for change without knowing what change already exists on paper, waiting to be enforced.

Here is what I now believe:

Mother tongue instruction is not the enemy of English. infact, It is the bridge to it. Research consistently shows children learn faster, develop stronger literacy, and perform better across all subjects when they first learn in a language they understand at home.

The answer is a structured, well-resourced transition, mother tongue as the bridge, English as the destination.

If you are an NGO owner, social worker, educator or SDG advocate, my advice is know your policy landscape. It will change how you work.

Let me drop this, What education policy have you recently discovered that changed your perspective?

Why do community projects keep failing?
Because we keep skipping the most important part
The people.
We show up with solutions before we understand the problem. We build, donate, take the photos and leave.
Then wonder why nothing lasts.
A project built without community ownership will always collapse. Every single time.

If you are passionate about community development, charity or running an NGO. this one is for you.

Today’s World Photography Day feels so different.

I remember when I picked up a camera for the first time nervous, curious, not fully knowing what I was stepping into. But photography and I? We’re paddies. We figured it out together.

It’s been a beautiful journey, from capturing hundreds of portraits, to events, from documenting rural communities and telling stories that matter, to using a lens as a tool for education and social change.

And now, this chapter feels even more exciting.

I’ll be joining @clingcreativeacademy as a Photography Tutor, working with intending and beginner photographers to help them find their eye, their voice, and their story through the camera.

If photography changed how I see the world, I want to help it change how you see yours too.

See you in class.

We celebrate enrollment numbers. We celebrate new school buildings. We take photos and give speeches.
But nobody talks about Amaka, Lara, Fatimah in that rural area.

Nobody talks about the millions of children who show up bright, eager, full of potential and still get left behind.

Not because of who they are, but because of where they were born. Because of how much their parents earn. Because of a language barrier nobody bothered to fix.

Inequity in education is not a mistake.
It is a policy choice.
And policy choices can be changed.

Why now.. I guess the world currently is teaching us to live to the fullest..
I guess better now than never..

Going forward, I'll be doing more work around educational
development ,sensitizing Africa on the importance of education, promoting better teaching inside classrooms, and advocating for equity in education in my own little way.
