💜 TODAY MARKS THE BEGINNING OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH. 💜

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) a time to raise awareness, amplify survivor voices, remember lives lost to domestic violence, and remind our communities that what happens behind closed doors should never be ignored.

Domestic violence does not always leave a visible bruise. It can look like control, intimidation, isolation, stalking, sexual violence, financial abuse, threats, or physical violence.

The research reminds us why awareness matters:
An estimated 22.3% of women and 14.0% of men in the United States have experienced severe physical violence by an intimate partner during their lifetime.

Behind every percentage are people, families, children, stories, and lives forever impacted.

Throughout October, Vividbound will continue doing what we do year-round standing with survivors, educating our community, increasing awareness, and helping individuals transform from surviving to thriving.

💜 Pay attention. Learn the signs. Believe survivors. Speak up. Be a safe person.

Some battles are fought quietly.
Some abuse happens where no one else can see it.
Awareness can be the beginning of someone realizing they are not alone.

🧶💜 LOOPS OF LOVE IS STILL IN MOTION! 💜🧶

Just because you haven’t seen us posting doesn’t mean the hooks have stopped moving! Vividbound’s Loops of Love Program is still very much in effect, and we’ve been busy creating, learning, and working toward a very meaningful goal.
Through Loops of Love, we are crocheting handmade items that will be donated to individuals in our community who could use an extra reminder that they are seen, remembered, and surrounded by care.

Our first focus is especially close to our hearts: children who have lost a parent as a result of domestic violence. 💜

Every stitch represents time.

Every loop represents intention.

Every finished piece represents someone choosing to care.

Our goal is to create enough handmade items to begin placing them into the hands of children who have experienced an unimaginable loss offering something made especially for them with warmth and compassion.

And we’re not stopping there. 🧶✨ Loops of Love was created with a spirit of two-way giving bringing survivors with community partners together to learn and create while giving what we make back to others.

We’re still crocheting.
We’re still creating.
We’re still giving.
And Loops of Love is still going strong. 💜

Stay connected as we continue working toward our donation goal and prepare to put these handmade expressions of love into the community.

A CONVERSATION WORTH HEARING. 💜

Domestic violence doesn’t always look the way we expect it to and sometimes the person experiencing abuse is the person no one thought to ask "Are you okay?" or "How can I help you?".

According to the CDC, about 1 in 7 men have experienced severe physical violence by an intimate partner during their lifetime.

Vividbound was grateful to join Mark Braxton on the Living Life and Love Podcast for an important conversation about recognizing the signs of domestic violence, the experiences of men who are abused, and why creating space for these conversations matters.
Men can experience fear. Men can be controlled. Men can be isolated. Men can be abused. And men deserve to be heard and supported, too.

A special shout-out to the LETTERS team - Christopher Glover, Christopher Bailey, and Aisha Stocks for continuing to help bring conversations surrounding domestic violence into spaces where they need to be heard. 🎬💜

Thank you, Mark, for opening your platform to a conversation that may help someone recognize what they are experiencing or recognize the signs in someone they love.

🎧 Take a moment to listen. Then share it. Someone in your circle may need this conversation more than you realize.

LET’S TALK ABOUT HOPE.

Sometimes it doesn't take a grand gesture to make a difference in someone's day.

A phone call.
A meal.
A listening ear.
A ride.
A kind word.
Simply showing up.

You never truly know what someone may be facing behind closed doors.

So today, we want to hear from YOU:
What is ONE small act that can give someone hope during a difficult time?

Drop your answer in the comments. 👇🏽 Your response may even give someone else an idea of how they can show up for a person in their life.

This conversation is at the heart of Vividbound's upcoming 5th Annual Community Outreach:

Hope in the Midst of Unseen Battles ~ Behind Closed Doors
Saturday, November 14, 2026
10:00 AM–2:00 PM
📍 Tarboro Road Community Center

🎤💜 SPOKEN WORD SPOTLIGHT: LEPIDOPTERA 💜🎤

Some battles are never spoken about. Some are hidden behind smiles, closed doors, and the words, “I’m okay.”

This year, we’re bringing those unseen battles into the light.
Vividbound is excited to announce that Lepidoptera (see below to find out more about Lepidotera), will present a powerful spoken word performance at Vividbound’s Community Outreach Event in partnership with the City of Raleigh:

✨ HOPE IN THE MIDST OF UNSEEN BATTLES ~ BEHIND CLOSED DOORS ✨

Lepidoptera will perform “I Said I Was Okay” a spoken word piece that aligns beautifully with this year’s message and challenges us to consider what may be happening beneath the surface of the people we encounter every day.

Sometimes “I’m okay” doesn’t tell the whole story.

Behind closed doors, someone may be navigating fear, abuse, isolation, uncertainty, or circumstances that others simply cannot see. This performance is an invitation to listen beyond the words, look beyond appearances, and remember the importance of compassion and discernment.

And this is only ONE part of what we have planned! 👀

Come experience survivor voices, engaging discussions, live music and performances, community resources, vendors, our Children’s Activity Area, the LETTERS trailer and panel discussion, and so much more.

 Saturday, November 14, 2026
10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
📍 Tarboro Road Community Center | Raleigh, NC
🎟️ FREE — Registration Required

Whether you are a survivor, supporter, family member, professional, or simply someone who wants to better understand how to recognize and respond when another person may be facing an unseen battle there is something at this event for you.

💜 Come hear what can be hidden behind the words, “I Said I Was Okay.”

www.vividbound.com

More about Lepidoptera:
Lepidoptera is a Raleigh-based spoken word artist whose work bridges raw human emotion, lived experience, and profound resilience. Grounded in a background as a dedicated caregiver and studies in psychology, her writing reflects a deep understanding of empathy, healing, and the complexities of the human condition.

💜 A message worth amplifying.

Supporting survivors also means recognizing what is not theirs to carry.

A survivor should never have to become responsible for another person’s accountability, growth, or decision to change. Their boundaries, safety, choices, and ability to move forward should not be dependent upon the person who caused harm completing an accountability process.

This is one of the reasons Vividbound values our partnership with the ROOTED Accountability Framework™. There is importance in creating spaces where accountability can be addressed without placing additional expectations or responsibilities on survivors.

At Vividbound, we will continue standing beside survivors while supporting community efforts that challenge harmful behaviors and encourage meaningful accountability.

The responsibility for change belongs to the person who caused the harm, not the person who survived it. 💜

💜 Partnership with purpose. Accountability with survivor safety at the center.

Vividbound is truly grateful for Delana Epps-Avery, CEO of the ROOTED Accountability Framework™, and even more grateful for the meaningful relationship and partnership that continues to develop between us.

When Delana first introduced Janine and Vividbound to the vision behind ROOTED™, it was clear that this was about more than creating another program. It is about approaching domestic violence intervention differently, recognizing that accountability and behavior change for individuals who have caused harm must remain connected to the safety, voice, choices, and wellbeing of survivors.

Vividbound is honored to serve as the Survivor Safety & Accountability Partner as the ROOTED Accountability Framework™ DVIP pilot continues taking shape in Johnston County.

Janine is equally grateful for the opportunity to get to know Delana beyond titles and meetings. Delana's passion for this work, willingness to listen, and commitment to ensuring survivor perspectives remain represented have made this collaboration especially meaningful.

At Vividbound, we believe supporting survivors means meeting people where they are, providing information and resources, advocating alongside them, respecting their choices, and helping them move from surviving toward thriving.

Meaningful community change requires organizations willing to come to the same table, bring different areas of expertise, listen to one another, and remain focused on the people the work is intended to serve.

💜 Vividbound Village, please join us in officially welcoming Delana Epps-Avery and Avery Robinson Training & Consulting (ARTC) as a partner in the Vividbound Village!

We are honored to welcome ARTC into our growing network of community partners, and we are equally honored that Vividbound has been entrusted to partner with the ROOTED Accountability Framework™ as its Survivor Safety & Accountability Partner.

This is what community partnership looks like: bringing our individual strengths, experiences, resources, and expertise together while never losing sight of the people we are here to serve. taken in Johnston County Courthouse by @vividbound_
