My best friend and I have been dreaming about making movies together since we were 12 but this specific project originated four years ago. We talked about it, tried to get the ball rolling and then slowly let it fade into the background. Last year, we finally sat down together and started developing the concept, the story, the intention behind it all. In February, I went to an artist residency at @casavicino to finalize the concept so we could submit it for arts funding. And today, we got the message that our project has been funded. It hit me.. this is real now. We are really fucking doing this! This is just the very beginning of this journey but I feel so grateful that we get the opportunity to bring our vision, a part of our own story to life. @nxwtime

A lot of times when I want to try something new, something out of my comfort zone, I find myself feeling super overwhelmed and full of doubt. There is this loud voice that tells me that I can’t do it, that I’m delusional, that I will embarrass myself, that I shouldn’t even try. Throughout the years I’ve learned that if I want to create the art I always wanted to bring to life, I need to learn to act even when that voice tells me to quit and to stop being intimidated by my own insecurities. We grow outside of our comfort zone and so I had a little stream of consciousness where I wrote a small reminder for the next time I feel scared about taking a step that may feel daunting:

Get the idea on paper. Write the concept. Share your thoughts. Reach out to that person. Leave rooms where you don’t feel seen or appreciated. Be loud, be wild, be passionate. Love with everything you have. Tell them how you feel and tell them even when your voice shakes. Push through when it gets tough. Breathe when it feels like everything is too much. Surrender to the discomfort that comes with growth. Feel the fear and do it anyway. Every mistake makes you stronger, wiser, more resilient. Perfectionism kills your creativity and keeps you from being fully yourself. So just try. Just fucking try!!!
