What I See. Meet Adrian, father to Sovereign and husband to @dammysaintclaire. Adrian is the Director of @wecarehomes who provide mentoring and residential care for young people who are ‘at risk’ of gang violence or CSE and need to be relocated.

He isn’t on Instagram like that but I did the series especially to highlight men like Adrian. Too often people see the colour of our skin and create narratives about us, narratives about black men. They are feared, and often time they fear those who fear them for good reason.

Anyway my point is we are more than what they tell/show you. To Sovereign her Dad is her world and this image is probably my favourite because of the innocence and joy in her eyes. When I showed up at their door, she was beaming and it pains my heart to know there are people in this world that don’t value her life or her fathers. Let this image also be a reminder of why BLM isn’t a moment but a movement.

What I See. Meet @1shillingford, father to Shiloh and husband to @abskishills, they also have a son named Jericho. Martin is the co-owner of @bushbabes_babystore and founder of @cdspstudio.

Originally the series was fathers and their sons, but I couldn’t do a series without featuring Martin and Shi Shi, his first born was a girl who literally is his twin. He not only tells his daughter to love her curls, he literally shows her! I love the beauty in that. He champions for black women and I’m all the way here for that!

Martin is a fellow black creative who constantly champions for the representation of our community in the creative space. He has been a support for advice and a listening ear for frustrations we face. He is open and willing to share his years of knowledge and experience for the empowerment and progression of our community. .

What I See. Meet @msempa4, father to Micah and husband to @sempalife, they also have a daughter named Sariah. Moses is a biomedical scientist, yup we’re educated over here, despite what they will have you believe!

This family is a walking testimony of God’s faithfulness and goodness, I do not say that lightly. Their children are literally the evidence of prayer. I loved capturing them because Micah truly does look up to his Dad, matching shapes ups and all! I admire their bond.

Moses was my youth leader and over the years I’ve seen him pour into young people, especially young men. He didn’t just talk da tings, he walked it and modelled it. He is a leader, in fact his whole household are leaders, they don’t follow, and I truly believe his children will be shakers among their generation. This family gives me hope for our future.

What I See. Meet @neonsamuels, father to Elliott and husband to @dupsy_d. Neon is a fitness coach and pro boxer who recently launched @poweredby_neon a fitness, nutrition and coaching platform that has been one of my best investments into myself during this pandemic.

If you follow him, you’ll sometimes get a sneak peak of what it means when they say your child watches and mirrors all you do. Elliott is only two and little man can lift a kettle bell and if you hang around long enough he’ll show you his muscles. Super cute!

But more than that you can already see he is confident in himself and he’s good to stand on his own. Neon constantly demonstrates to his first born he can do anything he sets his mind to and that self belief this early is so important for this generation.

What I See. Meet @kingsleybeats, father to Elijah and husband to @elrica.o . He is the co-founder of @mixtapemadness and recently became a father 3 weeks ago, but the joy and pride within his voice whenever he speaks of HIS SON will put a smile on anyone’s face.
Sit with Kingsley and you will soon learn his family is his legacy and purpose. He is a PROUD BLACK GHANIAN MAN and will let you know it. This family continuously goes above and beyond to outpour love and support to our community, abundantly. I am honoured to do life with them. And I’ll tell you now the lineage that will come from this household will be one for the history books!

What I See. Meet @nicholasdex , father to Josiah and husband to @amxrose_ . Nicholas is founder and designer of @odfclothinguk. His achievements and positive contribution to our community are endless. You can’t leave a conversation with him and not feel inspired and proud of us as a people.

His little boy captured my heart the day I met him and I absolutely adore this family, walking into their home you’re reminded we are royalty and the importance of raising the next generation with this intentional view. You don’t walk with your head down in this household, they’ll be quick to remind you who we are and support you in adjusting your crown 👑
