When joy becomes a metric, connection turns performative. The line between personal and professional dissolved, and we forgot how to be bored, present, together. We crave connection, and analogue nostalgia doesn’t feel accidental at all.

Choosing more anti-algorithm joy in 2026:
offline time, long walks, real friendships, quiet peace.
Honestly, it is a challenge, but a damn good one, because we’re slowly losing ourselves on these platforms.

Oh yeah, and if you are online: tryna spend more time on Sublime & Substack. That’s where it’s at x taken in Berchem by @vlrch

Everything feels overstimulated lately: phones, feeds, thoughts. I’ve been journaling to make sense of why my head feels so full.

I read something on Medium about digital overload and this constant low-level stress we carry without noticing. It clicked. Our brains weren’t made for this pace, or for group chats with 156 unread messages, or for being “on” in a dozen directions at once. You don’t have to feel the rush to answer every text the moment it comes in.

We almost never switch off. All that input: apps, messages, emails forces our minds to jump around more than they’re built for. And that constant reset is exhausting, even when we don’t realise it.

I was reading an article in Dazed about catch-up culture, and it stayed with me.

Somewhere along the way, spending time with friends started to look like a series of scheduled updates rather than shared experiences.

Last week in Langkawi, during a simple batik workshop, we forgot about time completely. It felt like a glimpse of something we’ve quietly misplaced: a way of being together that isn’t about catching up, but about creating, noticing, and just existing in the same moment.

Maybe that’s the part we’re missing.

Special thanks to @firdausho & @rumahmawart for being such wonderful hosts ✨ taken in Langkawi by @vlrch
