I wasn’t around for the first couple of years of Reno, so I can’t speak firsthand to what those years looked like. But what I do know is that Reno didn’t start out with all of the classes, infrastructure that Roswell has put in place in just its first two years.

There were more racers this year than last year, and there will be more next year than there was this year. That’s growth.

We also can’t expect every spectator who went to Reno to automatically make the trek to Roswell. That’s just not realistic. Reno had 50 years to build the event, the following, and the tradition it became. We’re starting from the ground up.

The die-hard racing fans will always be there. But if we want this sport and these races to continue growing, we need to bring in new spectators, new racers, and people from different parts of the country who may have never made the trip to Reno.

Roswell has the space, the means, and—perhaps most importantly—the support of the community to build something special. And having two years of safe PRS, qualifying, and racing in the books is pretty damn impressive.

It’s not Reno. It’s building something new.

And after two years, I’m pretty excited to see where this goes. Let’s keep racing! by @vnychick
