De/Formed Revival, Voirelia’s most recent full-length work explored the fraught relationship between past and present- the hopeful yet painful process of to letting go and seeking the deeply personal, in the present moment answers to the questions that have been asked a thousand times before – can anyone truly shed the molds they were cast in by the centuries of who and what came before? Is there really such a thing as creating an authentic self? 🎉We are excited to announce that De/Formed Revival dance film adaptation is coming soon! 💫Our next chapter of this series, Future Renaissance, takes the next step further: what molds and casts are we creating now? What choices are we making right this moment that might trap future generations in fear and isolation or embolden them to continue to seek authenticity and genuine human connection? 💥Be a part of creating these exciting new works of dance, film, & visual art- donate to us via @thedancecentrebc & specify Voirelia in your gift. We are delighted to unveil "Voirelia," by @william.d.higginson, inspired by our collaboration with William on Voirelia's "Future Renaissance" project. Stop by the @fairmontvan main floor from 11am - 6pm, Tuesday to Sunday through June and July - this work needs to be experienced in person! The painting and limited edition prints are available. Inquire with @@william.d.higginson One of the most exciting things about Voirelia is witnessing creativity blossom across different art forms - watching dance make a painting bloom or a sketch suddenly creating a world for our choreography. William D. Higginson is an outstanding artist in his field, taking his unique surrealistic style to new heights, and we are very grateful for the chance to share an artistic process with him. Stop on by the Fairmont to meet this incredible artist, see "Voirelia," and discover many other works that will transport you to a different world. #art #painting #surrealism #yvrarts #vancityarts by @voirelia
Impromptu shoot with @brendan_mcalpine from August First Saturday open studios at @city_centre_artist_lodge Next First Saturday open studios coming up on Sepember 5th. We had a great time hosting so many curious and engaged visitors at our interactive studio installation, created with @touchingsoundproductions @voirelia @brendan_mcalpine & @big.dionysus.energy, and we could not resist the colorful environment of the City Centre Artist Lodge for a fun mini shoot while one of our collaborations ran the installation single-handedly for a few minutes. Check out @firstsaturday.ca every month to see a list of participating artists and studios where you can meet local artists in their studios and experience their latest creations. #art #artist #photography #artstudio #openstudio by @voirelia
Choosing the red door: a portal that alters you as you pass through it. Captures from our process creating a dance film, set in the uncanny world of @william.d.higginson's surrealist art. Entering the physicalized structured of the odd, yet alluring worlds within his paintings, our dancers research what it means to inhabit the strange beauty of these otherworlds. Movement unfolds the story of becoming something not quite human as one travels this uncanny multiverse. Photos by @brendan_mcalpine Visit the @william.d.higginson and @olgarybalkoart in their studio Tuesday - Sunday, 11am - 6pm at @fairmontvan, ground floor, and dive into these surreal landscapes yourself. What's through the red door? @william.d.higginson created a physical expression of the red door motif in his "Voirelia" painting right in the middle of his current art studio, shared with @olgarybalkoart at @fairmontvan. Our talented crew brought this crimson portal to life, infusing it with possibilities of characters who pass through and are transported or transformed by the invisible corridors behind it. We are thrilled to be working on a dance on film work based on this exciting collaboration between painting, dance, photography, and film.
