Thank You, U.S.A.

"Bienvenidos a los United States."

My first memory in the US. October 11, 1986, Miami International Airport, precisely 40 years ago today. I was a 9-year-old Cuban boy in an immigration room with my parents and my little sister.

The officer handed me a can of Coca-Cola, opened it for me, and I drank it while watching him write every line of his notes by hand, in English. I was mesmerized.

"Get away from my clothes and leave us alone!"

My first memory in Cuba, years prior. Spoken by my toddler sister to socialist/communist soldiers raiding our small, humble home after learning we owned clothes from the US, sent by family in Miami.

Two memories.
Two countries.
Two governments.

Leaving was its own battle. Everyone needed an exit visa, and getting one was close to impossible. Once it was granted, officials came to your home to "confirm inventory," making sure you took nothing in "their" registry with you. Not even a spoon. Not even if "yours."

The irony: a system that sells itself as perfect it has to lock its exits.
The island: surrounded by water and, since 1959, by oppression and abuse.

I was born in Havana. The US became our home. We all hold something in high regard. I hold this country in the highest. To those who hold another country higher, whether it is Cuba or anywhere else: the United States will never ask you for an exit visa.

2026 marks 40 years since we arrived (1986), 30 years since I became a US citizen (1996) and the 250th birthday of the United States (1776).

I am a 49-year-old Cuban and a 40-year-old American. The US gave my parents the freedom they risked everything to find. It gave my sister a home where no soldier would ever come for her clothes. It gave a 9-year-old boy a future he could never have imagined from inside that immigration room.

Everything in this story begins with my parents' love and courage. Every door that opened for my sister and me here, they opened first. I will spend the rest of my life trying to be worthy of what they gave up for us, and of every door the United States opened for us.

U.S.A., thank you.

8/13/2025 was a special time, a special share with all those present - and now we want to share with the world.

My infinite gratitude for the love, the support.

I am Cuban, but this message also goes out to other countries, including Colombia (RIP Miguel Uribe @migueluribet), Venezuela, Nicaragua - and, unfortunately, many more...

Irrespective of name or style, it is dictatorship.

Special thanks to @jesusz305 @twentyonecreative @jairo.a.gil and others.

I love you all. And I'm just getting started...

THANK YOU! by @vonnellmartinez

Parents build the wealth. Their children inherit it.
Rarely with the same philosophy.

At the Private Wealth Latin America & Caribbean Retreat, our founder Vonnell Martinez was asked how Latin America's first generation of wealth creators differs from the second.

Different strengths. One family. One shared dream.

Like rivers meeting the ocean, what we bring together becomes a force of nature. At VIM, we’re building a future where our clients, our team, and our dreams grow together.

And yes… I wasn’t actually at Markets Group today. AI brought me out from behind the curtain because apparently, nobody misses the family photo. 😂

That’s the power of a team you trust: Even when you’re not in the room, your shared purpose shows up in the actions, the commitment, and the results you build together.

Here’s to the laughter, the milestones, and going farther together. 🔥🔥🔥
