A free Black Speculative Writing Summer Fellowship for Black Science Fiction & Fantasy writers🚀✨
Founders: @lisa_teabag @shingai_be_like

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

And we're back!
Voodoonauts 2026 is officially open for submissions! After a year's hiatus since our incredibly successful 2024 workshop, we are excited to once again create a space for Black speculative writers to gather, write, fellowship, learn, and grow together from across the global diaspora.

This year the theme of our Fellowship will be Afro-Whimsy. In a moment where the politics of a our world wage war against, Black, Brown, Queer and Immigrant bodies, how do we draw from the lineage of Afro-diasporic belly laughter, dancing, eroticism, loving, and communing through food and embodied fellowship to tell the stories rooted in the worlds we want to be alive for.

Tell a friend to tell a friend. Deadline for applications is June 18th

Voodoonauts fam,

In just under two weeks we find each other once again for our FIFTH virtual Voodoonauts fellowship, gathering Black speculative writers across the world's diaspora.

This year we received over a hundred applications, more than we have ever received, thanks to the Voodoonauts community who keeps this work alive!

It was a deep honour to read through the work of so many Afro-speculative practitioners who trusted us with elements of their creative process.

Over the next few days we get the pleasure of honouring our 2026 Voodoonauts fellows!
Come along with us for the ride as we share the names and faces of these world builders, collective fire-starters, and systems-of-domination over-throwers.

We begin with:
Ishola Abdulwasiu
Ashunda Norris
B. Sharise Moore
Cheryl McCourtie
Elizabeth Abena Osei
Ajani Tyehimba
Ashleigh Martin
DJ. Wesley
Caroline Kwara
Camille Hernandez

As always, stay blessed and blessing! ☀️🪴💃🏾 by @voodoonauts

After a one year hiatus, Voodoonauts is back!!!
We are so excited to share our 2024 call for Black speculative writing Fellows!
Since 2020 we have offered a space for Black speculative storytellers to connect across the diaspora. Our fellows have been as diverse as our cofounders, everywhere from Chicago, Atlanta, Bulawayo and Nairobi and more.
This year, our theme will be Resistance, Solidarity and Liberation and we will be hosting craft workshops and teachings that insist on dismantling Imperialist, White Supremacist Capitalist worlds in our stories, extending an invitation to create worlds rooted in liberation.
Tell a friend to tell a friend. We would love to see you there.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: MAY 1st

(Can also be found in our bio)

Note: Voodoonauts is 100% free and is made possible by the volunteering of time, energy and resources by the Black storytellers who facilitate the space. We center mutual aid in the ways we move through the world, and hope that this sets the pace for other organizations and folks thinking about expanding what is possible for Black storytelling spaces. We do accept donations to our Voodoonauts PayPal address voodoonauts@gmail.com (especially encouraged of white allies invested in personal reparations work)
In gratitude & solidarity
