Very belated post of this super fun gig. I’m a long-time Beastie Boys fan, so was really excited to hear some new music from Mike D. His backing band 5D brought the house party to the tunnels with some of the sickest beats and rhythms I’ve heard in ages (toy laser gun for sound effects 👀✅) Even my phone mic quit a few times because the bass was too much 😭

Have to mention the opener @tonybontana who had some technical issues- but when you got skills, no mic, no problem 🔥

(Second to last vid is loooong because it’s one of my fave Beastie Boys songs and not sorry for assaulting your ears with my rap screaming 😂) taken in 26 Leake Street by @vortexine

Q & A and signing with Melissa Auf der Maur for her book Even the Good Girls Will Cry : My 90s Rock Memoir. Hosted by Miranda Sawyer @ ICMP ✨

This post is a personal one for me. I had the opportunity to meet Melissa 26 years ago when she joined the Smashing Pumpkins when they did a short run of in-store signings and performances. This was also the height of my SP “super fandom”. No tickets- it was announced last minute and you just had to show up and hope you got in. I ended up queuing for 10 hours. I was not prepared. I was sunburned, dehydrated and completely overwhelmed. I ended up at the back of the signing queue as I was one of the first in for the performance. By the time I got to the table I was a hysterical, sobbing mess. Instead of being freaked out by me, Melissa just embraced me and just kept saying “It’s ok! We’re just people!”. To be comforted in that moment by one of my musical idols was inconceivable (it felt like a double whammy meeting Melissa as I was a Hole fan as well). I only had my car keys and a disposable camera with no flash allowed. I took the worse pictures ever but at least I had something from that moment. I was fortunate to be able to meet her again after all these years and tell her how meaningful and unforgettable that interaction was. And I brought the photos!

The book is an excellent read (though you might think I’m biased), especially if you’re interested in the 90s grunge/alternative era. It’s a wonderful insight into what it was like to be part of that scene and in one of the most iconic bands from that time. ✨ taken in ICMP UK - The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance by @vortexine
