Volunteer with VAAC! 🫂🤝🏾📞🚪🪩 We’re looking for ambassadors, canvassers, and phone bankers to help people get registered, understand their voting rights, and learn what’s on their ballot.

There are lots of ways to get involved:

• Ambassadors lead outreach and educate voters in their communities.
• Canvassers connect with neighbors door to door.
• Phone bankers make calls and share voter information.

VAAC works year-round to reach communities impacted by incarceration, housing instability, and systemic barriers. Our work is led by directly impacted people working to strengthen our communities and increase voter participation.

Soul food, familiar faces, and conversations about staying involved in our communities brought us to Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church in Ypsilanti on October 11 for Survivors Speak’s Civic Engagement & Soul Food Dinner.

Our VAAC team enjoyed sharing a meal and connecting with neighbors, including our friends from the League of Women Voters Washtenaw County and WeROC. The afternoon brought civic education into a welcoming community gathering, with a focus on participation that continues beyond Election Day.

A special thank you to Survivors Speak for bringing everyone together and having us be part of the afternoon!

Before voters cast their ballots, local clerks test voting equipment in public. VAAC attended a public accuracy test to observe the process, ask questions, and learn more about the preparation behind Michigan’s elections.

Seeing that work firsthand gives community members an opportunity to understand how equipment is checked and get answers directly from the people responsible for running elections.

Public accuracy tests are underway across Michigan. Contact your city or township clerk to find out when and where your community’s test will take place and how to attend.

Thank you to the election staff who walked us through the process and answered our questions.
