Made this new animated poster out of scraps left from the original one. Literally all the original 3D files were lost to time, and all that was left were a couple of random PNGs, but it proved to be enough! The “making-of” video took almost twice as long to make as the initial poster lol.

I really love this character, and it sucks that I won’t be able to play around with his 3D model anymore, but it was still fun to do something new with him. by @vovis.arts

It was early 2020, the height of COVID. I spent the final year of my SVA Masters program in lockdown, in a small apartment, back in my home country. My NY dorm was closed and all the other options were way out of my budget.
It was a crazy time! I developed an anxiety-depressive disorder, I missed NY, I hated spending my thesis year in those zoom lectures.
Nevertheless, during one of them, we were introduced to a Filmmaking basics course and I felt this little tingling — the one I hadn’t felt in a long time, the one I had when I went to get my MFA in the first place.
So, one thing led to another, I decided to fight my anxiety and depression by filming something on the go. No script, no cameras, no idea what I was even doing. Looking back at those videos now, I am glad I spent time doing this senseless bullshit, because this is the exact thing that shaped the life I have now. Even though I still pretty much have no idea what I am doing, at least now it feels different. And the tingling is still there!
Anyway, here’s a video where a guy takes a piss on another guy’s head for no apparent reason. I know, but like I said, it was one crazy year. by @vovis.arts

This is a short interview I did with a classmate back in 2019 at SVA in New York as a way for us to get to know each other.
Even though we came from completely different worlds and cultures, during this interview I felt that there are no real cultural or language barriers when both people are willing to connect and truly see one another.
That feeling has stayed with me all these years. It feels hopeful, which is why I decided to share this comic after so long by @vovis.arts

Animated series pitch deck!
Chivalry Academy is a sci-fantasy coming-of-age series for ages 12–15, set in a post-nuclear world where civilization has collapsed into fragmented settlements and new belief systems.
Inside a former history museum turned knight academy, children are taught ideals of valor and honor through romanticized tales of the past.

Five young knights are sent into a harsh, lawless world to retrieve the lost Code of Valor, facing a rising apocalyptic cult intent on triggering the final end of the world by awakening a “dragon” hidden in the valley — an inactive nuclear bomb.

Their journey becomes a test of survival, belief, and identity, while childhood ideals collide with reality they were never prepared for.

Recipe: Cooking up a 3D character

1. Prep the base (Sketching)
Start on paper — then clean it up in Illustrator, front and side!
2. Shape the body (Modeling)
Sculpt the forms in ZBrush, model the rest in Autodesk Maya (don’t forget retopology) until it stops sucking
3. Give it bones (Rigging)
Build a rig in Maya, paint weights, try not to scream
4. Add skin and fabric (Texturing)
Paint this thing in Substance Painter from all sides, clean and even
5. Move it! (Animation)
Jerk the joints, tweak the limbs, have fun (it’s Maya again)
6. Plate and serve (Rendering)
Light it, frame it, sprinkle some effects until ready (all in Unreal Engine)
Best enjoyed with a glass of anything strong really
