POSTS STORIES REELS

18 year old me thought I’d be living in Boston with my PhD by now…😅

It’s been a while since I’ve done an introduction, so hi I’m Val!

✨Here’s a bit more about me:
- I’m originally from Indiana🌽
- I had 2 weddings to my husband (COVID)
- I graduated as a chemical engineer and quickly realized it wasn’t the right path🎓
- I quit my job before I was making “full time” income and don’t recommend that, but it was a necessity
- I’ve been to 24 National Parks. My favorites are Katmai, Rainier, and Glacier 🏔️
- Current big travel goals are the W Trek in Peru, Annapurna in Nepal, Argentina, and New Zealand
- I love cocktails, and have an account @cocktailswithval where I share drink recipes!🍹
- I’m a serial hobbyist, currently into gouache painting and crochet!🧶

✨Things I get asked a lot:
- How do I make money?- I work with outdoor and travel brands and tourism boards. I create photos and videos that posted to my page or theirs.

- What’s my camera set up- @sonyalpha a7rv with a standard zoom and wide angle, @djiglobal mini 4 drone, most video is on my iPhone 15 Pro Max

- I just moved to the PNW and don’t know anyone, can we go hiking?- I actually colead women group hikes as a @hikerkind ambassador! The sign ups drop at the beginning of the month, to help more women get outside and make friendships!

I also lead a girls group trips!

Any other questions, drop them below!

A love letter to the Pacific Northwest mountains (and a shot or two in California and Canada if you can spot them🤫)

I can’t believe it’s almost been 4 years since we took a chance and moved to Oregon after visiting only once. But now my weekends (and some weekdays) are spent exploring these mountains and waterfalls and I love them so much.

Before moving I’d only been hiking a handful of times, so here’s your reminder that it’s never to late to start, and if you don’t have anyone to go with, you can go alone with proper precautions!

Inspired by @juliatakesahike video

I tried shortening this video half a dozen times, but couldn’t pick which clips to take out so I just left them all in😂 Enjoy 30 seconds of the PNW

This is easily my favorite place I’ve ever stayed, and it has to be one of the best places to stay in Alaska! (hosted)

@orcaislandcabins is a unique glamping stay that starts with a boat ride from Seward out to the remote cove with the yurts!

✨At the yurts you can:
- kayak to a waterfall
- hike to a WWII bunker
- paddle board in the cove
- snorkel and explore tide pools
- use a rowboat and go fishing

The best part for me was how much wildlife we saw! We saw a black bear near the waterfall, kayaked among the sea otters, and saw river otters running around in the morning! It’s also not uncommon for seals, sea lions, and orcas to come up into the cove🦦

✨The cabins come equipped with a:
- Full kitchen & cooler for food
- Fireplace
- Shower and composting toilet
- Outdoor grill and large deck

Would you stay at these glamping yurts?

just a reminder Fall is still here in Oregon🤎🌲

📍Latourell Fall & Multnomah Falls

Oregon’s Fall comes late but it sticks around for a while! You can still catch Fall color in the Gorge and around Portland for a few weeks into November usually, so here’s your sign to plan a day trip soon!

Finally got to see this magical little spot in Fall!✨🍁

📍Cedar Creek Grist Mill, Woodland Washington
- 50 minutes from Portland
- on the Saturdays you can see inside of it, it’s staffed by volunteers
- it can be a nice picnic spot, there are tables across the river from the mill
- the last Saturday of October they press apples and you can get fresh apple cider!

This is such a cute hidden gem in Washington! The historic mill is ridiculously scenic in the Fall and a popular photography spot.

I will say there is not a ton to do if the mill is not open, so I’d bring a picnic lunch or stop by as part of a larger day trip in the area if you visit outside of Saturday.

Have you been to this cute spot!

a must see for all the 90s and 2000s kids 🎃🍂

Halloweentown was filmed in St Helens Oregon, and every year the town decorates itself to look again like the movie!

You can see some of the decor during the week for free, but if you go on the weekends in October there are performers, drinks, and vendors! This year you can even go on Halloween!

📍Spirit of Halloweentown, St Helens Oregon
- 1 hour from Portland
- fee for weekend parking and fee for the fair and photo ops
- free to see pumpkin and decor on weekdays
- this town is where Bella’s house in Twilight was filmed!

Have you been? I just swung by on a weekday, but I’ll have to return on the weekend some time!

it’s finally “bad weather” season in Oregon again…

The forecast is nonstop rain for the next week and I’m honestly thrilled! It’s been a very dry Fall and it was starting to make me nervous.

Plus I genuinely love the moody rainy days we get in the Pacific Northwest and by Fall I’m always starting to miss them.

I hope you can enjoy the rain as well!
