Hello to all the new faces here. 🤎

I thought it was time to properly introduce myself.

I’m Vanessa, the designer and creative director behind (VR) Graphics Studio.

(VR) Graphics began in 1997, the year I finished university. I started freelancing from the very beginning, building my portfolio alongside my full-time design roles and taking on every opportunity that came my way.

For over 20 years now, I’ve been running the business independently.

For most of that time, I never needed to advertise. The studio grew through word of mouth, referrals and long-standing client relationships and the work simply kept coming.

Through VR Graphics, I’ve had the opportunity to create work for brands including Columbia TriStar, ALDI, Caltex, nudie, Splash Clinics, Snackbrands, Level Beverages, The Distributors and Metro Petroleum, alongside many other established and growing businesses.

Instagram has now become a way for me to share more of the work, the process and the story behind the studio.

For a long time, I let the work speak for me. I stayed behind the designs, deadlines and all the moving parts that come with running a studio. But this rebrand has made me realise that my own story is part of the business too.

The studio today feels more personal, considered and connected to the things I love European influence, warm materials, hospitality, storytelling and design that looks beautiful but still works hard.

It reflects my European heritage, but also my Australian soul the warmth, openness and grounded way I approach both life and business.

This new direction feels like a clearer reflection of everything I’ve grown into, creatively, professionally and personally.

Still Vanessa.
Still V.
Just stepping forward a little more. 🤎

Over the years, I’ve worked with big brands, brought in contractors and built a business that has kept going through word of mouth and referrals. That trust means so much to me.

Lately, I’ve been thinking about change, what I need now and what the next chapter might look like.

I’m still figuring that out, but I’m proud of what I’ve built. Here are a few things I’ve learnt over 25 years in the creative industry, with a little humour along the way. 🤎 Happy weekend.

How do you want your brand to feel?

Warm and welcoming?
Calm and trustworthy?
Powerful and exclusive?
Grounded and natural?
Romantic and expressive?

Colour is one of the first things we experience when we encounter a brand, often before we notice its logo, typography or message.

Golden tones bring warmth, optimism and nostalgia.

Soft blues communicate calm, clarity and trust.

Black creates authority, confidence and exclusivity.

Olive and earthy neutrals feel grounded, natural and intentional.

Burgundy, blush and gold evoke romance, richness and emotional depth.

There isn’t one “perfect” palette. The right colours are the ones that support your brand’s personality, values and the way you want your audience to feel.

Because colour isn’t simply decoration.

It quietly tells your brand story, before a single word is read.

Which direction are you drawn to: 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5?

My career has always been built on contracts, retainers and word of mouth. No big sales strategy, just strong work, trusted relationships and clients recommending me to others.

The Distributors Brisbane has been one of the most significant of those relationships. After working with The Distributors head office for more than five years, I began working closely with the Brisbane team, a relationship that would continue for two decades.

What began with catalogue design developed into a long-standing creative partnership spanning national promotions, seasonal campaigns, conference materials, point-of-sale artwork and countless fast-paced projects.

Along the way, I’ve also had the opportunity to collaborate with an incredible network of suppliers and some of Australia’s most recognised FMCG brands, bringing together their products, promotions and campaigns across hundreds of catalogues.

There were tight deadlines, last-minute changes and large projects to coordinate, but also so much creativity, trust and shared history. Knowing their business so well meant I could often take a limited brief, understand exactly what was needed and turn it into a strong visual solution.

Receiving these generous words means more than I can say. I’m incredibly proud of everything we’ve created together and deeply grateful for the trust placed in me over so many years.

Relationships like this are not only part of my portfolio, they’re the foundation my business was built on and an important part of my journey that I’ll never forget. 🤎

Looking back at July’s work while taking things a little slower in recovery mode. 🤎

A colourful mix of branding, packaging, retail campaigns, social content, photography and print, a lovely reminder of just how much was created before life asked me to pause.

Resting, recovering and feeling grateful for a creatively full month.

Almost a year since Europe and I still find myself going back to these moments. Looking back now, I can see how much of that trip quietly found its way into the inspiration behind my new branding.

Croatia was a moodboard without even trying, sun-washed stone, faded colours, beautiful old buildings, the Adriatic and details everywhere you looked.

Proof that inspiration doesn’t always start at a desk. Sometimes you just have to look around… or start planning another trip. 🤎

Let’s make your brand feel like somewhere people want to be. 🤎

Not just a logo, but the whole picture.

The identity. The colours. The packaging. The signage. The social. The little details people remember.

Whether you’re starting something new or your current brand just doesn’t feel like you anymore, I’d love to help bring it all together.

If you’re serious about making a change and ready to create a brand that truly reflects your business, get in touch via the link in my bio.

Some places just stay with you. 🤎

I grew up in La Perouse, so every time I come back it feels like home.

It’s where I learnt to slow down, notice the little details and appreciate beautiful textures, colours and history… probably long before I realised I’d become a designer.

Fun fact: Bare Island just behind me was used as the villain’s hideout in Mission: Impossible 2, so yes, Tom Cruise has been here too. 😄

This little series is a reminder that inspiration doesn’t always come from Pinterest or behind a screen. Sometimes it comes from the places that shaped you.

Midweek mood board 🤎

The beauty is always in the details, the curve of a lamp, the fall of linen, the texture of stone and the softness of light.

A little collection of colours, textures and forms inspiring me in the studio this week. These quiet details often become the starting point for a new brand identity, visual direction or creative idea.

From soft and understated to refined and established. ✨

The refreshed @skin_to_perfection identity was designed to better reflect the expertise, personalised treatments and elevated client experience behind the business.

Deep burgundy, antique gold, refined typography and botanical details create a confident and cohesive presence across all touch points.

A beautiful new chapter for a professional skin treatment studio. 🤎

I loved working on this gorgeous brand for @skin_to_perfection ✨

The new identity was designed to bring a sense of luxury that truly reflects the beautiful experience and treatments offered, supported by Paula’s extensive knowledge and expertise.

Soft, refined and confidently feminine, every detail was considered to create a brand that feels just as elevated as the service behind it.
