The modifications to the tunnel are now finished. The prop shaft is fitted and everything has been seam sealed, stone chipped and painted. While I had the welder out, I also closed up the factory shifter hole.

The prop shaft is from a MK1 Audi TT, it came from a car that had only done 21k miles so was still mint. I just had to modify the bracket for the centre support bearing as it was a bit too wide.

Next jobs are to make a full exhaust and fit a Haldex controller.

Another job ticked off the list. Longer handbrake cable guide tubes fitted and moved to the same position as Rallye / Syncro models.

This photo shows how the original cable tubes sat before the tunnel was chopped up.

The guide tubes line up perfectly with the handbrake cable hangers.

Rear brakes, bias valve and brake pipes ✅

The brake pipes in the engine bay aren’t the prettiest but I will remake those the next time the engine is out.

(Missing a couple of brake hose tension clips, they’re on order)

Progress:
Interior painted
Fuel pumps fitted
Fuel sender wired up
Custom twin relay pump harness made and fitted
Fuel lines ran through the original inspection cover using bulkhead connectors
Plastic trim panels fitted to cover rear quarters

Next job is to make the fuel breather and make up some new battery cables.

Today i’ve fitted the driveshafts, anti-roll bar and re-painted the wheel arches as they were looking a bit tired next to the freshly painted floorpan.

The fuel cell is now mounted. I’ve welded some tabs to the rear support bar with some standoff tubes that poke through the floor and into the car. I decided to mount it between the rear wheels for better weight distribution and crash protection. Eventually I will make a sealed enclosure for it.

The massive hole where the spare wheel well used to be has been welded up. Underneath, everything has been sealed and painted body colour using 2K.

Progress on the 4motion swap so far. I’m keeping the standard height floor, rather than raising it like a Syncro / Rallye shell. Using a Mk4 Golf rear differential brace makes this possible.

I’ve cut out the spare wheel well, welded in a crossmember and started to mock up the rear end. Next job is to install the fuel cell and weld up the hole in the floor.

The Haldex is looking fresh after a lick of paint.

Hopefully it works, i haven’t tested it yet 😅

Fun fact: Temu brake caliper hooks can hold the weight of a Haldex.
