With the current tropical cyclone activity, research into coastal flooding is especially timely.

A hurricane doesn’t have to make landfall to cause flooding along the Chesapeake Bay.

Md Shadman Sakib, David Munoz, Jennifer Irish, and Thomas Wahl from @ucfcece analyzed thousands of simulated tropical cyclones to understand how storm characteristics and rising sea levels could change flooding across the bay over the next 25 years.

The findings could help coastal communities better anticipate where extreme flooding may occur and prepare for the storms ahead. Sea coast by @vt_cee

Pulling a 255,000-pound airplane by hand takes a serious team effort.

Our graduate students joined the Delta Airport Consultants team Saturday in Roanoke for the Special Olympics Virginia Plane Pull, helping pull a Boeing 757-200 down the runway.

And there was an extra Hokie connection: many members of the Delta team are former Hokies themselves. people pulling an airplane by @vt_cee

Learning about sustainable infrastructure doesn’t mean always sitting in a lecture.

In Tripp Shealy’s CEE 4034: Smart Sustainable Infrastructure class, students took on a hands-on challenge to build a wind turbine blade from start to finish.

Shealy created the game to teach students about life cycle analysis and supply chain risks, with 3D-printed game pieces, dice and boards made in the maker space lab in Patton Hall. students playing board game by @vt_cee
